Porch Pirates, Vandalism, DWI Arrest Reported In Basking Ridge

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A package theft, vandalism, a DWI arrest, and more were reported during the month of February in the Bernards Township Police blotter.During the above timeframe, Bernards Township Police Department officers responded to 24 motor vehicle crashes. There were two injuries reported, and seven motor vehicle summonses were issued.On Feb. 1: Patrol officers responded to police headquarters for a theft of packages incident. A resident of Mine Brook Road reported that they ordered goods from Amazon and had them delivered to their home. The resident provided police with photographs of the delivery. When the resident arrived home, the package was missing from their front doorstep. If anyone has any information, contact the police.On Feb. 3: Patrol officers responded to the area of Potomac Drive on a report of criminal mischief. Patrol officers met with the complex property management, where they directed patrol officers to two street signs that were vandalized with paint. If anyone has any information, contact the police.On Feb. 5: Officer Bryson Buchanan was watching traffic on Martinsville Road near the Martinsville Exxon gas station. Buchanan saw a black Nissan with several equipment violations and subsequently conducted a motor vehicle stop on the Nissan. After a roadside investigation, both parties in the vehicle, Amir Abi-Rafeh, 27, out of West New York, and Jason Loyacono, 47, out of Ridgefield Park, were found to be in possession of several different types of narcotics. Both parties were placed under arrest and taken back to police department headquarters for processing. Abi-Rafeh was also found to have a no-bail warrant out of West New York. Both parties were charged with several indictable narcotics charges by Buchanan. Abi-Rafeh was turned over to West New York Police for his outstanding warrant, and Loyacono was released from police custody with an upcoming court date.On Feb. 13: A resident from Mt Airy Road came to police headquarters to report a theft. The resident stated that someone stole his Pennsylvania temporary registration from his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway overnight. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact police.On Feb. 18: Officer Justin Gumprecht was driving on Stonehouse Road when he saw a green Subaru Outback driving unsafely and committing several moving violations. Gumprecht subsequently conducted a motor vehicle stop on the Subaru. The driver of the Subaru, Alexey Kuvshinov, 46, out of Berkeley Heights, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. After a roadside investigation, Gumprecht placed Kuvshinov under arrest for driving while intoxicated. Gumprecht took Kuvshinov back to police headquarters for processing. Kuvshinov was issued several summons and released from police custody with an upcoming court date.On Feb. 19: Officer Olivia Strama was watching traffic in the area of King George Road when she saw a black Toyota with an equipment violation. Strama conducted a motor vehicle stop on the Toyota. After a brief investigation, the driver of the Toyota, Laquan Brinson, 36, out of Newark, had an active warrant for his arrest. Strama then placed Brinson under arrest for his outstanding warrant. After the court was contacted Brinson was issued a summons and released from police custody with a new upcoming court appearance.On Feb. 25: Cpl Zolnierowski was watching traffic on Interstate 78 West when he saw an Infinity with an equipment violation. Zolnierowski conducted a motor vehicle stop on the Infinity. After a brief investigation, it was determined that the driver of the Infinity, Juan Hoseia Cook, 36, out of Easton, PA had several active warrants for his arrest out of Newark. Zolnierowski then placed Cook under arrest for his outstanding warrants. Cook was issued a summons and released from police custody with a new upcoming court appearance.On Feb. 27: Ofc Widitz went to the area of Acken Road and Spring Valley Boulevard on a report of illegal dumping. Widitz was able to identify the owner of the debris illegally dumped on public property. After interviewing several people related with the complaint, Widitz was able to charge two suspects with a township ordinance for illegal dumping."The Bernard’s Township Police would like to continue to remind everyone to report suspicious activity observed by calling 908-766-1122. Please keep vehicles locked, without the keys in them and valuables out of sight.
