The weekly rundown: Some Penn State kicks times are coming this Thursday
The Weekly Rundown, our early-in-the-week column that focuses on all sorts of Penn State and college athletics news and information, is back!
Sure bets
Some Penn State kick times will be announced this week. College football and its television partners will announce start times and TV assignments for some games between Weeks 1 and 3 on Thursday. We may not get all of the Nittany Lions’ assignments. But, we should at least learn when the West Virginia opener will be. We could get one of the other non-conference matchups set in stone, as well. All three would be a surprise. But, it’s not out of the question.Jordan Hill’s new role with the Lions will be announced. As we reported on Monday, the program letterman, Super Bowl champion, and former high school head coach is joining Penn State again. This time, he will be the program’s first director of life skills. He will help players with various off-field needs. Recently, his friend and former defensive coordinator, Michael Mauti, returned to the Lions athletic department in a fundraising role. The first official visit weekend is here. A very brief dead period in the recruiting world ends this weekend. A quiet period follows it that allows players to visit Penn State. The first of four straight official visit weekends starts this Friday. It will play a big role in helping to shape the final Class of 2025 signees list.
The jury is out on these Penn State topics
Will Penn State land anyone who visits this weekend? Commitments don’t usually happen until June, of course. Whoever is visiting the Nittany Lions this weekend likely has other trips planned throughout the calendar’s six month. But, some will end up in State College when all is said and done. Receiver Lex Cyrus and cornerback Brandon Finney are two of the names we’re keeping an eye on.How many Nittany Lion connections will win U23 or U20 titles? The event that will set those U.S. Team events is this weekend in Ohio. Thirteen Nittany Lion Wrestling Club members are entered. We would not be surprised if half of that group ended up making one of the junior national teams. What numbers will the new Penn State players wear? The Lions have listed receiver Peter Gonzalez, defensive lineman Mylachi Williams, linebacker Anthony Speca, and lineman Caleb Brewer on the online roster after they enrolled earlier this month. But, they don’t have a number assignment yet. That will come sometime in June.
This Nittany Lion topic has our attention
The end of May is here. Which means camp season is here. New offers and commitments are on the way. So, too, is summer workouts. It will be more of a dripping faucet type of news cycle than a firehose one. But, plenty will happen over the next month.
