CBI Takes Over Kolkata Doctor Murder-Rape Probe; Teams From Delhi To Reach Kolkata On Aug 14: Sources

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigations involving the sexual assault and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, following directions from the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday. CBI has re-registered the case filed by the Kolkata Police. This move comes after the court’s recent order and marks a significant development in the investigation of this high-profile case. Previously, the investigation was being conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) established by the West Bengal government. However, the Calcutta High Court has directed the state government to hand over the case diary and all relevant documents to the CBI by Wednesday morning at around 10 am. This transfer is expected to enable a thorough and independent investigation by the central agency.According to sources, the case has now been officially registered at the CBI headquarters. In response, a team from Delhi, including doctors and forensic experts, is set to arrive in Kolkata tomorrow morning, i.e. August 14 to assist with the investigation. Her body was found in a semi-naked condition with some serious injuries. A suspect was arrested in the case and it was later found that he was drunk and used to visit the hospital frequently.The woman doctor was on duty on the night of the incident and had gone to take rest in the seminar hall where the incident took place.
