For decades, Gayle King was known as Oprah Winfrey’s best friend and right-hand woman. Yet, she also established a prominent anchoring career along the way. Gayle has worked on CBS since 2012 after serving her time on Good Morning America. Some of her interviews have been met with controversy, while others are praised. She held strong during a rocky R. Kelly interview, which was later mocked on SNL. Along with her hosting, Gayle has been inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. So, she has a lot of credibility, but does that mean she has a secure job?

It seems that her position may be up in the air amid poor ratings at CBS Mornings. As of now, Gayle’s contract ends in May 2026, and it will likely not be renewed. President Trump has even slammed Gayle for her performance, sharing these words:
“Gayle King’s career is over. No talent, no ratings, no strength!!!”
Whether what he is saying is true is irrelevant as of now. What matters is Gayle’s future with the network and where her career is headed. It is alleged that Paramount is set to be purchased by Skydance, so that could change the direction of the network.
A show staff member has stated that another anchor is being prepped in the event that Gayle King’s contract ends. However, it does seem that Gayle is not giving up or in just yet. She allegedly has a lot of power at CBS and can still call the shots with her career. Despite signing a two-year contract in 2024 and being a force to be reckoned with, her ratings have plummeted drastically.

Many have stated that they are boycotting CBS as a whole as they do not agree with its morals or values. Moreover, they do not care for the alleged weakness of the network. Hopefully, if Gayle King’s contract is not renewed, she can find another home sooner rather than later.
