US Senator Labels Trump’s Meme Coin Gala an 'Impeachable Offense' at Town Hall

From Gaza Comments to Crypto Dinners, Trump Faces Growing Impeachment Calls
On Friday, Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-GA, told town hall attendees that he favors impeaching Trump. NBC reports that the lawmaker conveyed this stance during the event, emphasizing that the U.S. president’s conduct meets the threshold for impeachment. Ossoff emphasized that the sitting president “has already exceeded any prior standard for impeachment.”
Trump’s offense? His recent meme coin dinner invitation extended to the top TRUMP holders. “I saw just 48 hours ago, he is granting audiences to people who buy his meme coin,” Ossoff remarked. “When the sitting president of the United States is selling access for what are effectively payments directly to him. There is no question that that rises to the level of an impeachable offense.”
The TRUMP meme coin dinner is a private gala slated for May 22 at Trump’s golf club, reserved for the top 220 holders of the TRUMP token, offering exclusive access to the president along with a VIP White House tour. News of the event propelled the coin’s value by more than 65%, igniting ethical concerns and prompting calls for an inquiry into potential “pay-to-play” corruption tied to the sale of presidential access through the token.
This is not Trump’s first encounter with the specter of impeachment, as it unfolded two times during his initial term. In both instances, Trump was cleared by the Senate and stayed in office through the remainder of his first term. Moreover, in the early months of his second term, a significant number of Democratic leaders are once again rallying behind efforts to remove him from office. Rep. Al Green, D-TX, was the first to declare the filing of articles of impeachment against President Trump in his second term, citing Trump’s statements on Gaza.
Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-MD, has expressed a willingness to pursue impeachment should bipartisan backing materialize. When questioned about impeaching Trump for “illegal executive overreach,” Raskin responded, “Find me two Republicans, and I’ll get to work tomorrow.” Similarly, Ossoff acknowledges that without firm support, any impeachment effort would falter. When a town hall attendee insisted that Trump must be impeached, Ossoff replied:
The only way to achieve what you want to achieve is to have a majority United States House of Representatives. And believe me, I’m working on it every single day, every single day.
