Disney upgrades ‘lightning’ pass after fans call for better ‘plan ahead’ options – but it will cost you more money
IN response to customer feedback, Disney is reimagining its fast pass program.
Starting July 24, the company is changing not only the program names but also pass functionality after visitors asked for more control over their trip planning.

A press release from the company on Tuesday outlined the coming changes and rationale.
They teased the new system would “blend features from our current services and the previously offered FastPass+ Service, giving guests the choice to plan ahead and removing the hassle of planning during their vacation.”
The first change is simply in the services’ name.
Disney Genie+ service is being changed to Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and individual Lightning Lane is changing to Lightning Lane Single Pass.
Disney explained that the purpose of these changes to “simpler names” was to “provide more clarity for everyone.”
“We deeply value the trust families place in Disney to create lasting memories and that is why we are dedicated to making updates that improve and simplify their experience,” the release went on to read.
MORE PLANNING LESS STRESS
But the more dynamic part of the system change comes with what the newly named passes provide guests.
According to the company, the decision to change pass offerings comes after an analysis of customer feedback.
“We enjoy hearing from guests about all the things they love, as well as how we can make their experience even better the next time,” reads the press release.
“At Walt Disney World, guests have told us they would prefer to have the option to do more of their planning before their theme park day.”
In listening to customer’s need for more flexibility with preplanning, Disney has provided just that.
With both pass types, guests will have the option to book their attractions up to seven days ahead of time, as long as their stay is under 14 days.
Specific to the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, visitors will be able to choose up to three attractions within a theme park ahead of time, also allowing for timeslot selections.
These selections allow the pass holder to skip the line for their selected attraction.
The Lightning Lane Single Pass will provide the same accommodations for one attraction in a theme park.
GENIE+ CHANGES
DISNEY's Genie+ service is now named Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
Starting July 24, guests to the theme park can purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, complete with new features.
For typically around $15-$27 per person per day, guests will now have the option to book their attractions up to seven days ahead of time, as long as their stay is under 14 days.
Because the company prices are based on the date and park popularity, the cost of these passes varies.
For the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, it is typically around $15-$27 per person per day or between $9-$27 for the Lightning Lane Single Pass.
With these additional pass features, Disney has not pulled back on any complimentary services already offered with the newly dubbed Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Single Pass.
Although the offerings have expanded, the method by which Disney visitors purchase passes and select attractions will remain the same.
These changes will only be rolled out at the Orlando, Florida Disney World Parks and not its California theme park, Disneyland, at this time.
GUEST APPREHENSION
Some guests are pointing out that these features are not insensitive, rather they are a reveal of part of the company’s old FastPass+ program; many are not pleased.
“So FP+ but it costs money. We are back to the system that bacially [sic] ruined fastpass to begin with and are charging people for it. Sweet. This is clearer at least,” shared one visitor.
Many pointed out that this feature used to be free under the old FastPass+ system.
“We don’t want this, we want our FREE FP+ back,” shared an X user.
“Paid FP+. Yikes,” added another.
