Missing Cobb County Teen with Special Needs Found Dead in Apparent Suicide

A teen who went missing in Cobb County was found dead, authorities confirmed. The Cobb County Police Department reported that Reed Springer, a 17-year-old with mild autism and hearing impairments, had been missing since May 14 when he left his home at around 12:34 p.m and was last seen wearing a gray/brown jacket, black shorts, and black shoes, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 175 pounds, Springer's search included a considerable police presence Wednesday morning in East Cobb around the vicinity of 3125 Sewell Mill Road, reported by the department. After an extensive search, the tragic discovery was made shortly before 3 p.m. when Reed was found dead in an apparent suicide, according to 11Alive.
The community had been alerted and was asked to be on the lookout for the teenager, during which his endangered status was emphasized due to his special needs. The case had drawn community attention with police urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in the search for Springer.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading to the death, and no further details were available at the time of the report.
