Triston Casas propelled the Boston Red Sox to a 8-1 win over the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park on Sunday afternoon.
Boston improved to 77-78 after Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader, which Red Sox manager Alex Cora watched from the clubhouse after a first-inning ejection. Minnesota, in a battle for the final wild-card spot in the America League, dropped to 81-72.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAYCasas recorded his first career three-homer game. The Red Sox slugger blasted a three-run shot to right center in the first inning, hit another three-run dinger to the Green Monster seats in the third inning and followed it up with a 423-foot bomb to center field in the fifth inning. Casas was responsible for seven of Boston's first eight runs as his third homer gave the Red Sox a 8-1 lead.
It marked the 36th time a Red Sox player hit three home runs in a game, and Casas became the 27th player to do so, per Red Sox director of baseball communications and media relations J.P. Long.
The Red Sox scored eight runs on 11 hits. It marked their biggest offensive output since they scored 12 runs on 15 hits against the Baltimore Orioles on Sept. 9.
STARS OF THE GAME-- Casas (3-for-4, seven RBIs, three runs) set a career high in RBIs and tied his career best in runs scored.
-- Nick Pivetta threw five scoreless innings en route to the win. He struck out four batters while allowing four hits and three walks.
-- Romy Gonzalez (2-for-5, RBI, run) was one of three Red Sox players with multiple hits. His RBI single to center field in the fourth inning scored Jarren Duran and gave Boston a 7-1 advantage.
