Harley-Davidson reveals ‘most powerful production bike ever’ – but fans call it ‘swing and a miss’ over crucial feature

HARLEY-Davidson has revealed their most powerful bike ever sold for the street – but quite a few fans aren’t happy about it.
The motorcycle giant showed off their 2025 CVO Road Glide RR in a video posted to social media, after unveiling it at a press event in Austin, Texas.

The CVO Road Glide RR, built on Harley’s touring platform, features a 131 cubic-inch motor that produces 153 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque.
Riders will be hard pressed to get their hands on one though, as only 131 units will be produced, while its price tag is a scorching $110,000.
Naturally, it’s the highest price the firm has ever charged for one of its bikes – which is reportedly built as a tribute to their participation in the “King of the Baggers” motorcycle race series.
At the event, Jason Kehl, Harley’s Product Development Leader, said: “A bike like this, a project like this, an exclusive motorcycle, hand-built, 131 units only, wouldn’t be possible without the full support of the company.
“This is a ‘factory motorcycle.’ Harley Davidson used that word, related to racing, for the first time in 1914.”
For those who don’t know, Mission King of the Baggers pits Harley’s heaviest bikes – with fairings and saddlebags – against those of its only American rival, Indian Motorcycle.
Harley is hoping to cash in on the series’s popularity with this latest model, although fan reaction hasn’t been quite what the brand would’ve had in mind.
Commenting on the unveiling video on Facebook, many users expressed their bewilderment at Harley’s decision to release such a pricey bike.
One wrote: “Yeah, this is what people want right now in this economy, to spend $150,000 on a Harley after taxes.”
Another said: “The answer to a question no one was asking. You’re already making $30K bikes that don’t have comparable tech to Japanese bikes at one third of the price.
“Instead of fixing that – you give us this?”
A third commented: “If this was the release you teased for three-quarters, you’re about to disappoint a majority of your fan base.
“You missed the mark, a swing and miss, HD.”
It wasn’t all negative, though.
Another user added: “For the person who wants the absolute best of the best ….here’s your motorcycle and if I could I certainly would.”
To that end, Indian put out its own race replica called the Challenger RR in 2023 that was track-intended only – and sales faltered.
29 units were released, initially priced at $92,229, and the Challenger RR is still available from multiple dealers for less than that.
In recent months, shares of Harley-Davidson have fallen as motorcycle sales fell for the third year in a row.
Higher prices and interest rates have widely discouraged buyers.
Harley-Davidson closures in 2024
There are over 650 Harley-Davidson dealerships across America.
However, multiple stores have closed for various reasons throughout 2024 – if they give any explanation at all.
Below is a list of some Harley-Davidson locations that have shuttered this year and why they closed their doors:
The San Francisco location closed in June after 110 years due to ‘chaos’ brought by new management.
Miracle City Harley-Davidson in Titusville, Florida, closed in September with no reason given.
Harley-Davidson’s legacy location in New York City closed shop on September 28, with the owner citing problems with the economy.
Reiman’s Harley-Davidson dealership in Kewanee, Illinois, closed its doors in October after the owners sold the business to the Walter Brothers Harley Davidson dealership in Peoria, Illinois.
Plus, the dealership in West Bend, Wisconsin, is temporarily closing for the season from November 2 until April 1, 2024.
