Kim Reynolds said Wednesday she is beginning the process of looking for a new lieutenant governor, but does not plan to make a final decision until after the election.
“We want to get it right, not only for the team, but for Iowans,” Reynolds said during a news conference. “I want to be very thoughtful in how I do that.”
Former Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg resigned in early September to take a position as president and CEO of the Iowa Bankers Association. Reynolds said she found out shortly before leaving for her recent trade mission to India and “didn’t have a lot of advance notice.”

Reynolds said right now she and her team are gathering names and “putting the process together” to begin interviewing candidates.
She said candidates will be asked to talk about their priorities and visions for the state and how that fits with the projects of the current administration.
The proposed constitutional amendment on the Nov. 5 ballot dealing with the gubernatorial line of succession does not affect Reynolds’ ability to appoint a lieutenant governor.
Without a sitting lieutenant governor, state Sen. Amy Sinclair, R-Allerton, the Senate president, is the next in the gubernatorial line of succession.
