Sooners Stretch Run Starts Tomorrow

The Sooner Scoop – July 19, 2024
Attention Ladies and Gentleman, I have an urgent and breaking Sooners news story!
Tomorrow’s announcement from Miami (Fla.) Central defensive tackle Floyd Boucard has been one Sooners fans have been watching for a while. Since the start of summer Boucard has been a wild one to follow as rumors have fluctuated from Miami to USC to even, at times, Alabama. However, there’s one school that has just kind of lurked in his recruitment – Oklahoma.
And now with about 24 hours to his announcement it seems that the Sooners may be in a great spot to land a commitment.
Boucard is a 6-foot-2.5, 315-pound defensive tackle with a lot of diverse skills to help Oklahoma. If the Sooners can close the deal this will be another late win reminiscent of classmate Trent Wilson as well as Jayden Jackson in 2024.
Sooners Losing Steam in North Dakota?
On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Sooner situation with West Fargo (N.D.) Sheyenne defensive lineman Kade Pietrzak. For weeks Oklahoma has felt like the undoubted favorite with sources from Lincoln, Neb. to Manhattan, Kan. all echoing the idea of Pietrzak headed to Norman.
But now it seems that the Huskers have made a move reminiscent of their late run at Grant Brix in 2024. Where does that leave things? We’re not entirely sure as he has a level of quiet to his recruitment that would make Brix seem downright chatty. However, it does feel as though Oklahoma has to make some decisions about where they want to go with their NIL package.
If the Sooners choose to get aggressive or can find some other way to turn his head, things may well get back on track. If not, Oklahoma’s chances are greatly lessened. Knowing how the Sooners tend to look at various decision processes there is some logic to the idea that they look in a different direction. Of course, time will tell as this seems to have all come kind of out of left field.
Huskers and Oklahoma in More Pitched Battle
While the Sooners are, quite likely, playing catch up for Pietrzak it seems that another battle with the Huskers is trending in a very different direction. Omaha (Neb.) Westside linebacker Christian Jones has been open about how much he enjoyed his trip to Norman.
The big linebacker was long thought of as a Nebraska lean but the Sooners are in strong shape and it seems that the Huskers are starting to have a feeling Scoop has heard Oklahoma fans utter plenty of times. There is a growing feeling that Jones may simply be looking to go away from the obvious choice of staying home.
As with Pietrzak you never want to count Nebraska out of a race but the Sooners seem to be in a good spot right now.
Visitor List Continuing to Iron Out
Oklahoma’s Sooners Under the Stars event is less than a week away and the group continues to look very strong. The one bit of news is that Duncanville, Texas star Kevin Ford Jr. will no longer be able to attend though there is some thought of making up the visit later in the month.

Predicting Oklahoma’s 2025 Class
OK, it’s time for Josh’s latest predictions for the class of 2025. For those unfamiliar every year on the first Friday of each month, I (Josh) invade Scoop’s personal space to predict what players could fill out the Oklahoma’s ongoing recruiting class.
Right now Oklahoma has 84 players on scholarship. Among those 84, they have 14 seniors currently on the roster. As a sign that things are starting to return to normal no player currently on the roster seems to have a Covid year available to them. Basically, trying to figure out who could return each year may again find some normalcy.
Obviously there are going to be departures either via the NFL draft, transfer, or any of 1,000 other reasons.
With that in mind, along with other bits of information with where the new staff plans to go, Scoop and I have been working under the thought of the Sooners signing somewhere close to 25 total in the 2025 class. What’s interesting is that we continue to be told that number is too high but it’s just tough to figure how Oklahoma cuts it much shorter. In fact, on this list we even shed a few possibilities at certain positions but Oklahoma seems ready to take a receiver more than we had anticipated.
The number is always tricky to guess but in this era, thanks to the few remaining ‘Covid year’ players and the transfer portal, it’s been nearly impossible.
Additionally, a level of confidence will be listed with each of the selections and finally a prediction of who will be the next Sooner pledge. Finally the numbers next to each position are how many I expect OU to sign at each position – though that’s still a work in progress with the portal and the staff still sorting itself out.
Now you can guarantee this list will just continue to evolve with new players for the 2025 class earning offers in the last few weeks. Much is still changing even at this relatively later stage for the class.
And, yes my excuses have already begun…

I continue to wait for the shoe to drop and something to feel ‘wrong’ here but so far, so good for the Sooners. Now the reality is that there’s a lot of twists and turns between now and August 21 but for now the Sooners can feel good and have some confidence about where they are. As for the rest, twists and turns are coming but we don’t know where they’ll be just yet.
