RI man creating replica of Tidewater Landing stadium in Minecraft

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Michael Basiliere spends most of his free time playing Minecraft.
But to him, it's more than just a game.
The Community College of Rhode Island student is actually using the game to create a 1:1 scaled replica of Pawtucket's Tidewater Landing stadium.
Minecraft is a game where players can explore virtually infinite worlds made up of blocks, which are unique with every playthrough. In each world, players can explore a number of different biomes, craft tools and items, build structures and fight monsters.
Though most Minecrafters play the game in survival mode, where players must acquire the resources to survive, Bariliere is building his stadium replica in creative mode.
Creative mode strips away the survival aspects of the game and gives players access to unlimited resources, as well as the ability to fly. It's perfect for Basiliere's passion project, which he has been working on for more than a month now.
"You can build whatever your heart desires," he explained.
Basiliere told 12 News he regularly visits Tidewater Landing, which has not yet been completed, to photograph its progress. He then bases his replica off of those photographs, as well as the stadium's renderings.
"I get to build the stadium out piece by piece to what it actually is," Basiliere said. "It's coming along. Hopefully I can complete it in the next couple of months."
Basiliere said that, once his replica is complete, he will upload his map for other players to enjoy.
"That way [players] can download it freely and experience the stadium before it's even here, in person," he said.
This is also personal for Basiliere, who said his father is helping to build the new stadium.
Basiliere and his dad are Rhode Island FC season ticket holders, and he's already mapped out their seats in his replica.
"Since my father is working on the project — he's a roofer — I even built a little figurine of him working on it and putting down the roofing itself," Basiliere said.

Basiliere can't wait until others can explore his replica.
"Hopefully once this is done, players will join and see something that's super lifelike before anything is even open," he said.
Rhode Island FC is currently wrapping up its inaugural season. The team has been playing its home matches at Bryant University while waiting for construction to be completed.
Tickets are already on sale for the 2025 season, which will be played at Tidewater Landing if everything goes according to plan.
