ESPN slammed by ‘sexualized’ fan spotted eating ice cream at College World Series leading to ‘Hawk Tuah’ comparisons
A woman has taken issue with ESPN over the network showing herself and a friend eating ice cream during the College World Series.
The sequence went viral and led to fans comparing the fan to the now-notorious ‘Hawk Tuah’ meme.

During the Men’s College World Series championship game between Texas A&M and Tennessee, ESPN focused on two women eating their ice cream in the stands.
The camera show caused play-by-play commentator Karl Raven to say, “You gotta get it before it melts and it’s liquid,” and then noted it was 93 degrees in Omaha, Nebraska.
A TikTok user named Annie posted a lengthy video on the social media platform and put ESPN on blast for showing her and her friend eating ice cream, leading to out-of-the-ordinary comments.
“It was a 20-second segment of just eating ice cream, or licking our ice cream,” she said.
“20 seconds! Dedicated, with commentary, to just us eating our ice cream.
“We all knew, we all knew what direction that video was gonna head in and lo and behold, the creeps of TikTok got ahold of it because we woke up getting compared to the Hawk Tuah Girl, which no shade to her.
“Girl, do whatever.”
The woman referenced Hailey Welch, who gained popularity for a street interview when she pretended to spit with noise spelled out as “hawk tuah” after being asked about “one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time.”
The TikTok user continued, describing the replies to the ice cream video as “absolutely repulsing” while adding the remarks were coming from men with families in their profile photos.
“It is so beyond evident that women are not welcome in the sports world,” Annie said.
“We just wanted to enjoy a baseball game.
“And it was 100 degrees so God forbid we eat some ice cream…It’s like we can’t sit and eat our food in peace.”
The woman then displayed numerous comments on the video.
Among the comments read, “That’s hawk-ona-a and hawk-two-a.”

Annie also shared that she doesn’t feel the need to go to a baseball game after her appearance on TV
“We all just want to enjoy a baseball game,” she said.
“And it was 100 degrees so god forbid we eat some ice cream.
“It’s like we can’t sit and eat our food in peace.”
After claiming that she felt vulnerable when she ate a hot dog before eating the ice cream, Annie said that ESPN tends to show women at sports events.
“Nah ESPN needs to be called out bc we know exactly why they did that,” she said.
“What’s funnier than a woman licking an ice cream cone or eating a hotdog or something that can be overly sexualized?
“But ESPN can keep it vague enough and the ambiguity is what protects them.”
Annie finished her five-minute rant by believing the ESPN broadcast should’ve shown them at other moments during the game, suggesting that the network should just focus on the contest.
“We can’t eat in peace. … To say I’m making a big deal out of it and there are more important things to focus on, I agree.
“Namely, the national championship game that we came to watch.
“So don’t say we make it about ourselves when you guys do it for us anyway.
“Be better at your job ESPN.”
