NCIS Spoilers: Why NCIS And NCIS: Origins Disappeared After CBS Canceled Four ShowsNCIS spoilers and updates reveal CBS has made the bold move of canceling four shows, which understandably worries fans about the absence of NCIS and NCIS: Origins from their regular time slots.
However, NCISverse enthusiasts can breathe easy; this unexpected hiatus has a purpose and does not reflect the future of these beloved series.
Why Weren’t The Shows On This Week?
On March 10, 2025, NCIS and NCIS: Origins stepped aside from their regular Monday evening schedule to make way for a special concert event on CBS titled Ringo & Friends at the Ryman.
This captivating show aired from 8 to 10 p.m., overlapping with the usual airtime of NCIS, The Neighborhood, and Poppa’s House. The concert showcased the legendary Ringo Starr, a member of The Beatles, alongside a lineup of talented country artists.
The roster included Sheryl Crow, Mickey Guyton, Emmylou Harris, and Jamey Johnson. Set against the backdrop of the iconic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee, the event promised an unforgettable night of music.
A Rerun Was Aired
During the hiatus of NCIS, NCIS: Origins filled the 10 p.m. time slot with reruns, likely to maintain continuity with NCIS’s schedule.
The last fresh episode of NCIS aired on March 3, 2025, while NCIS: Origins concluded its run on February 10, 2025. CBS has yet to clarify why NCIS: Origins has experienced more breaks than its predecessor.
However, considering it’s a new series, NCIS: Origins probably wasn’t approved for as many episodes as NCIS, which is currently in its 22nd season. Origins followed the path of a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs as he grew into his NCIS career.
The Break Came After The Cancellation Of Four CBS Shows
NCIS and NCIS: Origins are taking breaks from TV after CBS canceled three primetime shows. S.W.A.T., which will end after its eighth season; FBI: International, ending after its fourth season; and FBI: Most Wanted, finishing after its sixth season. CBS has also renewed The Neighborhood for its eighth and final season, set to air in the 2025-2026 broadcast season.
The cancellation of S.W.A.T., which had been canceled and then uncanceled by CBS twice before, was particularly surprising. Shemar Moore, who stars as Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr. in S.W.A.T. urged CBS to save S.W.A.T. again after the announcement of its third cancellation.
Shemar Moore Expressed Gratitude To Fans
Shemar said, to all our dedicated SWAT fans making some noise-we appreciate your love and support; you’ve helped us stay strong for 8 seasons, and we’ve come back from cancellation twice!
A third comeback would be historic-thanks for being with us! CBS announced in February 2025 that NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS: Sydney have all been renewed for new seasons.
NCIS will start its 23rd season, NCIS: Origins will begin its second, and NCIS: Sydney will enter its third. Another NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, featuring former characters Anthony DiNozzo and Ziva David, is also in development at Paramount Plus.
