El Farolito Defeats Napa Valley 1839 FC 2-1 in Regular Season Play

Napa Valley 1839 FC continued their NPSL season on Saturday, April 13th at Justin Siena Dodd Stadium in Napa, California as they took on San Francisco’s El Farolito.
Napa Valley 1839 FC started the season with a 3-0 record, while El Farolito had two wins and a draw. El Farolito is also in the midst of a strong U.S. Open Cup campaign and will play the Oakland Roots in the competition’s third round on Tuesday evening.
It was a chilly 47 degrees at kickoff, and it had rained all day. Yet that didn’t stop nearly 450 people from attending the game and catching all of the action. The game kicked off with some fast-paced action from end to end. El Farolito came out attacking and had a few chances. In response, Napa native and 19-year-old Sebastian Carbajal had a scoring opportunity saved by the El Farolito goalkeeper.
El Farolito would take the lead with a ball down the left side in the 15th minute. Five minutes later, Napa’s attack started to mount, but it was the visitors that struck again. Jorge Murillo gave El Farolito a 2-0 lead in the in the 27th minute.
A yellow card was issued to Napa’s Javier Alcarria Moreno two minutes later. El Farolito missed a breakaway chance on the goal late in the first half, and halftime saw the visitors maintain the same 2-0 lead over Napa.
The physicality of the visitors was starting to show early in the second half with multiple fouls being called. Napa had another attack in the 52nd minute, but the shot slid wide of the goal.
Carbajal would head the ball in for a goal just two minutes later, cutting the visitors’ lead in half.
A yellow card was issued to Johan Yabur in the 60th minute.
The back-and-forth action continued for the remainder of the game, but El Farolito still headed home with a 2-1 win. The result put El Farolito at the top of the Golden Gate Conference with three wins and one draw, and Napa is now in second place with three wins and one loss.
The remainder of Napa Valley 1839 FC’s season will be played at Justin Siena’s Dodd Stadium where the club averages over 800 fans in attendance. Napa’s next NPSL game will be on Saturday, April 27th versus the Oakland Stompers. The teams will be playing for Blake, a local teen that recently had a spinal cord injury, and money raised will go to support the family.
