Inside The Lines: Get to know Miami target Naeshaun Montgomery

Although Miami (Fla.) Central four-star wide receiver Naeshaun Montgomery may be new to the Rockets program after transferring this spring, the talented pass catcher is feeling at home on 95th Street.
“It’s going really good,” Montgomery said. “I’ve been welcomed into the team, and we’re definitely going to get back to winning championships.”
Originally from Rhode Island, the 6-foot-1, 165-pounder made the move to South Florida ahead of his freshman year and has enjoyed his time in the Sunshine State after spending the last three years at Cardinal Newman High School.
“Down here, the games are sped up a lot faster,” Montgomery said. “Everybody down here is fast, and you’re playing the top competition every weekend.”
Currently ranked as the No. 240 prospect in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking, Montgomery currently holds 46 offers from several top programs across the country, such as Alabama, Penn State, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Ohio State, and Miami.
“It’s truly a blessing to be in that situation,” Montgomery explained. “A lot of kids don’t get that opportunity, so I definitely take advantage of that. Really just blessed.”
Before Montgomery blossomed into one of the country’s best wide receivers, he played quarterback from when he was three until he was 12 years old because he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps, and it’s safe to say the switch has gone pretty smoothly.
“My dad had played receiver, and I wanted to play it because of him,” Montgomery explained. “It wasn’t that hard (making the transition from WR to QB). It was pretty easy.”
With nearly 50 offers on the table, Montgomery has plenty of options to choose from, with the Hurricanes being in the thick of things thanks to Miami wide receivers coach Kevin Beard.
“They’re doing a great job,” Montgomery said. “When he came back to Miami, he got JoJo Trader and a few of those guys. He’s doing a great job and is going to get those boys right for the next level.”
Since making his return to Miami last spring, Beard has built a strong relationship with Montgomery, who raved about his authenticity.
“He really keeps it 100 with you,” Montgomery said. “He’s going to tell you everything you don’t want to hear, but that’s like the best thing because you don’t want to be around ‘yes men’ the whole time.”
