Charges Levied In Attempted Carjackings In Rosslyn On Friday: Police
ARLINGTON, VA — Mark Anthony Johnson-Crestwell, 30, is facing multiple charges, including unauthorized use of a vehicle, for attempting to carjack two vehicles and a trash truck in Rosslyn on Friday morning, according to Arlington County Police.Around 11:30 a.m., a Metro Transit Police Officer was reporting to the Rosslyn Station when he saw Johnson-Crestwell approaching an occupied vehicle at N. Nash Street and Fort Myer Drive. Johnson-Crestwell tried to open the door, but the vehicle's occupant was able to drive off, according to police.Continuing down Fort Myer Drive, Johnson-Crestwell opened the back door of another vehicle, got inside and started yelling at the driver, who subsequently exited the vehicle, according to police.Witnessing the incident, the officer ordered Johnson-Crestwell out of the vehicle. When the officer tried to take the suspect into custody, a struggle ensued and Johnson-Crestwell fled on foot, according to police. The officer chased after the suspect and deployed pepper spray in attempt to stop him. However, Johnson-Crosswell entered an unoccupied trash truck at N. Kent Street and 19th Street N. After Johnson-Crosswell refused commands to exit the truck, the officer discharged his service weapon, striking the suspect, according to police. The MTPD officer administered lifesaving measures to Johnson-Crosswell until medics arrived. He was then taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for serious injuries. ACPD is investigating the attempted carjackings and the officer-involved shooting.On Saturday, police charged Johnson-Crosswell with unauthorized use of a vehicle, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and vehicle trespass.
