Stephen A. Smith ‘worried’ about JJ Redick after Lakers draft Bronny James because ‘he’s not most patient dude in world’
STEPHEN A. Smith will keep a sharp eye on new Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick after the team selected Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft.
The ESPN star, 56, shared his concern about Redick after the Lakers drafted LeBron James‘ oldest son with the No. 55 pick in the second round on Thursday.

LeBron and Bronny have become the first father-son duo to play with each other in NBA history.
Smith was part of ESPN’s draft coverage and shared that the two will “love the attention” that comes with their team-up.
But Stephen A. knows Redick all too well since the pair were colleagues on ESPN’s First Take.
The fiery personality wasn’t afraid to share his skepticism with Redick dealing with the media after the selection of Bronny.
“The person we need to be worried about is JJ Redick,” Smith said.
“He’s not the most patient dude in the world when it comes to dealing with the media and the same question over and over and over again.
“I think we need to watch that, but other than that we’re good.”
Stephen A. and Redick often got into heated back-and-forth debates on the hit ESPN show.
Redick received a four-year contract to coach the Lakers last week despite having no prior coaching experience.
During his introductory press conference, the 40-year-old wasn’t afraid to answer the question of how he feels about proving critics of his hiring wrong.
“It’s a valid question, and I’ve certainly heard everything,” Redick said.
“It’s been a really interesting six weeks or so, just in terms of being part of the engagement farming industry.
“It’s been really interesting; however, I don’t really have a great answer for your question because I really don’t give a f***.
“I want to coach the Lakers. I want to coach the team. I don’t want to dispel anything. I don’t. I want to become a great coach in the NBA and I want to win championships; and I want my players to maximize their careers. That’s all I f***ing care about.”

Redick enters the position after playing in the NBA for 15 seasons and being an ESPN basketball commentator.
He had been a co-host of the Mind the Game podcast with LeBron.
Redick will now coach the four-time NBA champion and his son Bronny, who’s an ex-USC star.
Bronny enters the NBA less than 12 months after suffering a cardiac arrest at USC practice.
He was later diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, which caused the medical emergency.
The 19-year-old rehabbed and returned to play for USC as he averaged 4.8 points in 25 games for the Trojans.
Bronny only worked out individually for the Phoenix Suns and his eventual team Lakers leading up to the draft.
