Avon Land Trust Hosting Benefit At Local Restaurant Thursday
AVON, CT — A gourmet Indian dinner will produce more than a full stomach and a satisfying meal on Thursday. It might help a local lander preservation organization keep rural portions of Avon and its beloved trails clean and accessible. The Avon Indian Grill at 320 W. Main St., Avon, is hosting a benefit event on Thursday, June 27, for the Avon Land Trust.A portion of that day's proceeds — for either dine-in or takeout — will go toward the trust, which owns and manages many properties in town for passive recreation and preservation. The land trust's mission since it was founded in 1973 is "to conserve and hold in trust the natural resources of the Town of Avon – woodlands, fields, lakes, rivers, open spaces and the plant and animal life living therein."The goal is to ensure Avon's "rural charm" is preserved for generations to come and to avoid overdevelopment. It does this by acquiring and managing various properties for the sole purpose of keeping them free of excess development and open to the public. It is operated and manned by an army of volunteers dedicated to the same ideals as the trust's mission statement. The trust owns/oversees 34 separate properties in town. For more information on the Avon Land Trust, including how to donate to the organization, click on this link. The article Avon Land Trust Hosting Benefit At Local Restaurant Thursday appeared first on Avon, CT Patch.
