Thunderbolts* Might Be on the Right Track by Keeping Sentry Actor Lewis Pullman in the Dark: ‘I genuinely, I don’t know’
It has long been rumored that The Sentry will be making his MCU debut in Thunderbolts*, played by Lewis Pullman. However, despite the actor being revealed to play ‘Bob’, who might not be short for ‘Robert’, as, in Robert Reynolds, The Sentry, audiences still remain in the dark whether Marvel’s own expy of Superman will be making his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It seems that Lewis Pullman himself is in the dark about the alignment of his character, who could be a villain or a hero in Thunderbolts*. While The Sentry has been wholly heroic for the most part, the character has found himself on the wrong side of history more often than not. Not only that, but the character has also heralded The Void, a malicious entity that bonded itself with The Sentry’s mind.

Speaking with GamesRadar+, Lewis Pullman talked about how much in the dark he himself is about the character that he is playing in Thunderbolts*. Given the nebulous alignment that The Sentry has often has, it only lends credence to the fact that the actor might be playing the Sentry after all. He said:
God, I would love to know. I genuinely, I don’t know. It’s one of the exciting parts about being invited into the whole universe is there’s a lot of unknowns, and you just kind of got to go with the flow and embrace the unknowns of it all.
Lewis Pullman could be playing a different character after all, but the MCU could have the actor playing The Sentry indeed, given all the other easter eggs that have been seen in the Thunderbolts* teaser. The Sentry might be a government-sponsored attempt to recreate a Steve Rogers after the failure of John Walker. Alternatively, it could be a private entity trying to make a hero in the same way that Justin Hammer was supplying weapons to the US government.

With nations like Wakanda, Talokan, and New Asgard playing increasingly more active roles on the international scale, the United States of America might be looking towards beefing up its own nation with government-sponsored superheroes. With President Thunderbolt Ross turning into the Red Hulk, and Sentry being a government-sponsored hero, there might be a power imbalance threatening the hegemony that the United States has been able to build in the world of the MCU.

Perhaps the government, with the likes of Red Hulk and Sentry, is trying to recreate the Avengers, which is also something that Ross will try to convince Sam to do in Captain America: Brave New World. This could lead to a version of the team called The Dark Avengers, which could serve as antagonist to an Avengers film before Doomsday and Secret Wars, bringing in some much-needed connectivity in the franchise once again.
Thunderbolts* will hit theatres on May 2, 2025
