Model Chrissy Teigen went live on social media on Thursday, May 22. She appeared to be in a hospital bed with her head wrapped in a huge bandage. Her swollen face worried fans. What’s going on?
Model Reignites Feud With Courtney Stodden
Chrissy Teigen is known for her modeling career and her famous husband, John Legend. But she’s also well-known for her unfiltered social media posts. While her barbs are often funny, sometimes she goes too far. It came out a few years ago that she once told Courtney Stodden to kill herself.
Courtney Stodden famously married Guiding Light actor Doug Hutchison when she was just 16 years old. He was 51 at the time of the marriage. The age gap caused major media attention. The former couple appeared on the VH-1 reality show Couples Therapy in 2012.
They divorced in 2021, and Stodden went public with claims that she was groomed by her older ex-husband. She told more of her story in the 2025 docuseries Confessions of a Child Bride: Courtney Stodden’s Story, which is currently streaming on Hulu.
According to Us Weekly, Chrissy Teigen apologized for cyberbullying Courtney Stodden in a since-deleted tweet. But there seems to still be lingering hard feelings. Stodden reportedly posted on social media mocking Teigen’s recent announcement that she relapsed. The model had been sober for the last few years.

“There’s nothing more important in this world than knowing that I am not gonna be sober. I’m having alcohol and I want everyone to know ‘cause it’s really important,” Courtney Stodden said in the video mocking Chrissy Teigen’s announcement.

Chrissy Teigen never publicly responded to the shady post. However, the model recently shocked fans during an Instagram live stream. Her face was completely bandaged in a bulky brown wrap. The video seemed to be taken from a hospital bed.
The lower half of her face appeared swollen.
Did She Have Surgery?
Chrissy Teigen didn’t address her shocking appearance. But her followers on the live video dropped comments asking what was going on. One follower asked if the model was okay.
Another simply wrote, “Surgery face, oh girl.”

The wife of musician John Legend still hasn’t addressed why her face was heavily bandaged in the social media video. But it seemed to be a huge clue that she recently underwent the knife.
And it wouldn’t be the first time. Chrissy Teigen has been open about her previous plastic surgeries, including breast implants at the start of her modeling career. Last year she admitted on Watch What Happens Live that she’s had three boob jobs.
According to Page Six, the model previously disclosed other surgeries. In 2017, she admitted to liposuction on her armpits. She had buccal fat removal surgery on her cheeks in 2021. That same year, she had eyebrow transplant surgery.
