Frightening moment Yankees star Aaron Judge is left bloodied after being hit with ball

By OLIVER SALT
New York Yankees star Aaron Judge was brutally hit in the head with a ball by one of his teammates on Saturday, leaving him with a nasty cut next to his right eye.
Judge was jogging off the field following the bottom of the fourth inning in the second instalment of the Yankees' Subway Series against the Mets when under-fire shortstop Anthony Volpe launched a ball in his direction.
Yet unfortunately Volpe - who was stood past third base in foul territory when he made the throw - his teammate was not expecting the throw while coming in from right field.
As a result, the ball flew straight into Judge's face, broke his sunglasses and left him bleeding near his right eye in a scary moment.
Fortunately the Yankees slugger appeared to avoid any serious injuries despite the ball coming from significant distance, meaning he was able to continue playing.
Judge returned to the field for the bottom of the fifth with a bandage near his right eye after being tended to by Yankees medical staff.

Nevertheless, it is the latest unfortunate moment for Volpe in what has been a miserable 2025 season so far for the 24-year-old.
On Friday he was replaced by pinch-hitter Trent Grisham in the top of the ninth of a one-run game against the Mets, which ended in a fifth straight loss for the Yankees.
'The competitor in you wants to be out there and help the team and you feel like you can, but those things are out of my control,' Volpe said after the demotion.
'What is [in my control] is just putting in the work and earning those at-bats. Earning every at-bat.'
The Yankees have dropped from first place in the AL East in recent weeks, having been overtaken by the in-form Toronto Blue Jays.
A 3-7 record in their last 10 has seen Aaron Boone's side falter, and a .545 win percentage is far below expectations after last season's World Series run.
Earlier on Saturday the Yankees were dealt another huge injury blow when it was revealed that pitcher Clarke Schmidt has torn his UCL and requires season-ending Tommy John surgery.
Schmidt played on Thursday but left the game early with right forearm soreness, with Boone later revealing he would head for MRIs and further analysis.

The 2025 campaign has been littered with injuries to the Yankees' roster, with pitchers Luis Gil, Fernando Cruz, Ryan Yarbrough and Yerry De Los Santos all picking up injuries over the past fortnight.
Prior to that, Oswaldo Cabrera - one of the team's youngest assets - fractured his ankle running for home plate in a harrowing night on May 13.
In March, Jake Cousins and Gerrit Cole's seasons were ended within days of each other, with the pitching pair suffering a UCL tear and a elbow ligament tear respectively.
Of the eight players mentioned above, four are out until next season at the earliest, while question marks remain over the others.
