FanDuel releases ‘mythical matchup’ odds for college football Week 1
The college football season is here. With that FanDuel has released new mythical matchup odds for Week 1 of the season.
A mythical matchup is, essentially, a bet that someone can make where they take two teams or players not playing that week and compare them with one another, using the points scored in their games. FanDuel treats them like a regular game in these odds, giving them point spreads and over/unders in the process.

Here’s a look at the mythical matchup odds FanDuel put out for Week 1:
North Carolina -21.5 vs. NC State, 72.5 point totalColorado +12.5 vs. Utah, 79.5 point totalTexas +3.5 vs. Oklahoma, 97.5 point totalIowa +8.5 vs. Iowa State, 71.5 point totalKentucky +6.5 vs. Louisville, 84.5 point totalOhio State -21.5 vs. Michigan, 88.5 point totalFlorida State -7.5 vs. Florida, 59.5 point totalAlabama -10.5 vs. LSU, 80.5 point totalNotre Dame +7.5 vs. USC, 52.5 point totalOregon -13.5 vs. Washington, 93.5 point total
North Carolina and Colorado, while not matched up by FanDuel here, are the first two teams in the mythical matchups that are going to be playing in Week 1. NC State is the first of these teams to be playing, with a game on Thursday night at 7 p.m. EST against Western Carolina.
Colorado, North Carolina, and Utah are all also playing later in the night on Thursday as well. That means that the first mythical matchups to come to a conclusion are going to be the ones between NC State and North Carolina, as well as the one between Colorado and Utah.
Using Colorado as an example, if someone were to bet the Buffaloes to cover the 12.5 points against Utah in these mythical matchups, they’d be looking for Colorado to score at least 13 points more against North Dakota State than Utah does against Southern Utah a little later in the night.
Notably, FanDuel chose to make all of the mythical matchups between rivals for Week 1 of the college football season. That certainly adds to the excitement of making one of these bets for fans.
Week 1 of the college football season begins on Saturday, August 29th. From there, college football games will be played every day through Monday, September 2nd. Games that involve teams in FanDuel’s mythical matchups will be played every day during that stretch.
