Target shoppers slam ‘sad’ new policy limiting sales of fan favorite after spotting sign & insist it’s ‘unenforceable’
TARGET shoppers have criticized a new policy that has reportedly been introduced to limit sales of baseball cards.
It comes after an eagle-eyed shopper shared a picture of a new store sign on Reddit which has now circulated on social media with shoppers sharing their thoughts.

RedditThe sign pictured in one Target store informs customers that staff will crackdown on shoppers testing trading cards for packs of value before purchasing them[/caption]
The typed-up sign was pictured posted above the shelves with packs of baseball trading cards.
It informed customers that the retailer has the right to prevent them from buying the cards under certain circumstances.
“Target reserves the right to prohibit purchases of any merchandise to resellers,” the sign shared on Reddit states.
“Resellers are defined as a company or an individual that purchases goods with the intention of selling them rather than using them.
“This includes individuals that exhibit behaviors such as pack searching and weighing.”
While card collection is another way for sports fans to engage with their passion and their community, it can also be a way to make money.
The majority of card packs contain base cards that have no value.
This is why those hoping to make some money will try to stake out the packs on sale to figure out which ones have valuable cards that they can sell for a profit.
Some of these more valuable cards can be identified through weight.
This is because base cards do not have a special foiling often found on the top-draw cards making them weigh slightly more.
While cracking down on resellers is a benefit to genuine card collectors hoping to score a pack with a high-value card, some Target shoppers questioned why the retailer made the move.
“Odd move to stop resellers,” one shopper wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“You make the same amount of money either way. While target has the right to do this I’m skeptical.”
“It is sad that this sign had to even be printed and posted,” one person wrote in the Reddit thread.
“I think its good to limit ‘resellers’, but there is no way Target can effectively enforce this,” another said.
“Most of the time I use self checkout and no one bats an eye at what I am buying.
What does the new Target policy state?
The following statement was written on a typed-up sign that was pictured by a Target shopper on the shelves containing trading cards:
Target reserves the right to prohibit purchases of any merchandise to resellers.
Resellers are defined as a company or an individual that purchases goods with the intention of selling them rather than using them.
This includes individuals that exhibit behaviors such as pack searching and weighing.
“Is the self-checkout team member really going to stop anyone? Highly doubt it.”
“How would they even know?” another asked.
Meanwhile others celebrated the move saying, “bout damn time” and “good for this Target!”
The U.S. Sun reached out to Target for comment and is yet to receive a response.
This latest change is just one of many recently introduced by the retailer including the enforcement of item limits for shoppers wishing to use self-checkout.
There has also been a recent change to Target’s return policy which means shoppers have to check the brand of the item they wish to return to see how long they have.
