Out pop singer Chappell Roan criticizes Joe Biden for not supporting “liberty, justice & freedom”

Lesbian pop singer Chappell Roan refused an invitation to perform at the White House for Pride Month because, she said, President Joe Biden has not been sufficiently supportive of “liberty, justice, and freedom for all.”
“As a response to the White House, who asked me to perform for Pride, we want liberty, justice, and freedom for all,” she said this weekend during a New York City performance. “When you do that, that’s when I’ll come.”

“It really puts children at the center.”
Variety reports that a representative for Roan said that the White House reached out to her team about the potential performance and that they were rebuffed. The White House has not commented on the matter.

It’s not clear exactly what issue the singer was referring to in her comments. The Biden administration has many accomplishments under its belt when it comes to LGBTQ+ equality, many of which involve overturning policies put in place during the administration of former President Donald Trump.
She may have been referring to women’s rights or the war in Gaza. Elsewhere in the performance, she dressed as the Statue of Liberty and said, “I am in drag as the biggest queen of all.”
“But in case you had forgotten what’s etched on my pretty little toes, ‘Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.’ That means freedom in trans rights. That means freedom in women’s rights,” she said. “It especially means freedom for all oppressed people in occupied territories.”
On social media, people had varied reactions to her statement. Many people pointed out that if she actually cared about any of these issues, she would oppose Donald Trump’s bid for the White House. Her supporters, though, called her “the moment” and said they wanted to “stan immediately.”
When fascism fully arrives in America and every institution is used as an instrument of oppression, I fear that people will finally wake up and realize that the people they held to arbitrary standards were actually the good guys all along. But it will all be too late. https://t.co/q7sJJN0YuJ— Hayden Ehlich (@haydencehlich) June 10, 2024
chappell roan opened her gov ball set by projecting a giant "am i gay" quiz onto the jumbotron, popped out of an apple in full green body paint as the statue of liberty, told the white house to go fuck themselves, and played a new song, and this is why she is the moment— jaime (@triptojaimeland) June 9, 2024

I don’t think yall realize how much progress we’ve made in such a short amount of time thanks to Joe Biden pressuring Barack Obama to endorse Gay Marriage equality. This is shameful. https://t.co/e5x6CBdbpS— Jake Lee (@jakeklee23) June 10, 2024

omg, yes, mama, maybe she’ll get invited back during a second Trump administration? https://t.co/WFp5zTkpJG— Wes (@midWestache) June 10, 2024
He's the most pro-LGBTQ president in history. He is not the reason we're seeing an anti-LGBTQ backlash. This is performative nonsense https://t.co/vNNEecoA7u— snek (@thee_snek) June 10, 2024
Chappell Roan is from a conservative Christian family and was brought up to hate Democrats from the cradle. Then she realized she was gay, but being white and southern and a racist, she went ahead and bashes Biden, despite him being the most LGBTQ+ friendly president ever. https://t.co/8tWC7DHC3E pic.twitter.com/uslgpf3a3p— Salad Shooter (@saladshooter9) June 10, 2024
love her but this is feels like a cynical PR move because she won't perform at the white house (would piss off many fans) but won't specify what issue this is in protest of (would piss off many fans) so we just get this non-statement… like why bring this up unsolicited lol https://t.co/EwfE1eOBai— Dan D (@DanDeBrak) June 10, 2024
