Severe Storms, Tornado Risk Wednesday In VA: Latest Forecast
VIRGINIA — There is a risk of severe weather Wednesday across the region, including eastern and central Virginia.The National Weather Service warns that incoming showers and thunderstorms could be severe, and pose the risk of high winds and even tornadoes in some areas. The storms are expected to begin in the afternoon and continue through the evening. Damaging winds with gusts as high as 30-40 mph are expected.Showers are likely before 4 p.m. and then possibly switching over to a thunderstorm between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., followed by scattered showers and more thunderstorms, according to the NWS forecast. New rainfalls amounts between a half and three-quarters of an inch are also possible.Thunderstorms will continue into the evening hours to be replaced by scattered showers between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., forecasters say. The storms clear out by Thursday, with mostly sunny skies and a high temperature of 55 is expected. It will remain windy Thursday, with gusts as high as 44 mph possible.Check back with Patch later in the day for any additional warnings issued by weather officials.Gusty S winds will develop through this morning & continue this afternoon.
