Concord has barely managed 2,000 concurrent players during PC open beta

Sony kicked off the Concord beta earlier this month but things have not quite gone to plan. Despite being a freely available download on Steam, PC players just don't seem all that enthralled with the game, amassing just a couple of thousand players.
Concord is due to be Sony's next big live-service project. Concord is developed by Firewalk Studios and Sony seemed to like early builds of this game so much that they immediately acquired the studio. With that in mind, a lot of investment has gone into this.
So far, it looks like that investment may not pay off. On SteamDB, we can see that the beta has peaked at over 2,300 players, and on day-one of the beta, player counts peaked at just 1,000 players. Typically for a big, brand new Sony game, we would expect player counts to be peaking much higher.
One of the big issues here could simply be the game's £35 launch price. Nowadays, games like Fortnite, Valorant, Call of Duty, Destiny, Overwatch and Counter-Strike can all be played for free, making it more difficult to sell a game like this to a significant player base. With that said, we do not know how many are playing the beta on PS5, or how many console gamers have pre-ordered the game at this stage.
Concord is due to launch on the 23rd of August, but based on reactions and reception to the game so far, Sony may want to consider delaying it and working out a new launch strategy.
KitGuru Says: Do you think Sony should rethink its strategy for Concord? If this were a free to play game instead, would you give it a chance? The post Concord has barely managed 2,000 concurrent players during PC open beta first appeared on KitGuru.
