A Fistful of Dollars Remake in the Works for Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western Movie

Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars starring Clint Eastwood is getting a remake.
A Fistful of Dollars is the 1964 spaghetti Western movie starring Eastwood as the Man with No Name. It is the first film in the Dollars Trilogy, followed by 1965’s For a Few Dollars More and 1966’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Per Deadline, Gianni Nunnari and Simon Horsman’s Euro Gang Entertainment has partnered with FCP’s Enzo Sisti and Jolly Film to make a remake of A Fistful of Dollars.
Production details are being kept at this time, and no casting has yet been announced. Deadline’s article notes that it will “most likely” be an English-language remake, though that has not been officially confirmed at this time.
“I am delighted to partner with Gianni again having just worked with him on Those About to Die, and with Simon on the remake of this classic film, which created a whole new sub-genre in film spawning over 500 European westerns,” Sisti said.
“Enzo is one of the most experienced producers in the film business, and we are fortunate to call him our partner on this incredible project,” Nunnari and Horsman added. “We are determined to produce a remake that does justice to the great Sergio Leone’s classic.”
What was the original A Fistful of Dollars movie about?
“Wandering gunfighter Joe arrives in the Mexican village of San Miguel in the midst of a power struggle among sheriff John Baxter and the three Rojo brothers,” the synopsis for the 1964 movie reads. “When a regiment of Mexican soldiers bearing gold is waylaid by the Rojo brothers, Joe is hired by Esteban to join the gang, but he plays one side against the other.”
In September 2020, it was reported that Mark Gordon Pictures was developing a television series adaptation of A Fistful of Daughters. There’s been little to no word about the project since then, tough Deadline now notes that it “didn’t come to fruition.”
A Fistful of Dollars is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, Max, and AMC+. A release date for the new remake has not yet been set.
