Quinn Ewers on first game vs. Texas A&M: ‘That place is gonna be rowdy’
Quinn Ewers hasn’t hid his excitement for the first Texas vs. Texas A&M game since 2011. The two teams will renew their rivalry now that they’re both in the SEC, and Ewers is gearing up for his first trip to Kyle Field.
The Thanksgiving weekend game is already generating buzz as college football season quickly approaches. But Ewers is looking forward to the atmosphere in College Station that night – especially since he’ll have some added motivation.
The Southlake Carroll product said he has some friends who go to Texas A&M. That means he not only has the Longhorns-Aggies rivalry in play, but also some likely trash-talk from his buddies.
“Unreal,” Ewers said when asked by ESPN’s Ryan McGee about what that game will be like. “Especially being there, too. I’m excited for that one. It’s been 12 years, I think, now. That place is gonna be rowdy.
“I hate to say it, but I got a couple buddies that go there. They’re pretty excited about it, too. It’s gonna be an unbelievable atmosphere, especially being back on that Thanksgiving weekend.”
Texas and Texas A&M haven’t played each other since a 2011 thriller in College Station. It came down to a last-second field goal, and Justin Tucker split the uprights to give the Longhorns the 27-25 victory over Ryan Tannehill and the Aggies.
Now, the rivalry is coming back on Nov. 30, and it was a hot topic around SEC Media Days in Dallas. It’s not just the Texas side generating the buzz, though. It’s also coming from Aggieland, and Taurean York summed up Texas A&M’s thoughts perfectly.
“It’s personal, that’s all I have to say, it’s personal,” York said, via CJ Vogel. “I don’t talk to anybody from Texas because it’s that personal to me. They didn’t recruit me and there’s a lot of comparisons going on about me and Texas players in a sense. So I kinda put those rest in a sense.”
Steve Sarkisian said Quinn Ewers the players might even be more fired up for the rivalry game than the fans. That doesn’t mean it’s not personal for the two fan bases, however, and it adds to the meaning of the matchup.
“Well it’s a great game. It’s a game that, like I said, divides households and one that, it’s interesting,” Sarkisian said at SEC Media Days. “Our players, I listen to our players talk sometimes, and they’re like, our players are probably way more excited for this game than most fans would probably think because we haven’t played the game in a while.”
