Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd has reflected on how Gail Platt’s (Helen Worth) departure has impacted his character.
Gail left Weatherfield towards the end of 2024 for a new life overseas with partner Jesse (John Thomson). The exit left the Platt siblings all alone, but Jack’s character David has faced the most drama since his mum said goodbye.
After stealing money from Harvey Gaskell, David decided to try and set fire to the Platt home, and then claim on the insurance. The plot never went ahead, because David’s son Max (Paddy Bever) got there first and committed the crime.
While this storyline involves gangs and criminal activity, it’s ultimately about David trying to keep his family safe.
With the character wildly out of his depth, he will no doubt be missing the life he used to live before Gail departed the cobbles.

Just recently, actor Jack P Shepherd reflected on this, and how much his character’s world has changed in such a short space of time.
‘They were always at each other’s throats but now she’s gone everything is falling apart for him!’, he said in today’s episode of This Morning.
‘We worked together for so long but the Platts are still the same and at the forefront of the show. It’s great what she’s left behind, we’ve got all that to thank Helen.’
Tonight’s episode of the ITV soap will primarily focus on David’s storyline, as he tries to put a plan in place to end Harvey’s reign over the family.

‘He thinks it’s the only way to clear all the debts and his family will be better off without him’, Jack said.
The plan itself will see David’s mate Andy get drunk and then drive a car right at him. David believes that if he’s dead, the money from his life insurance will ultimately send Harvey away.
Just before Andy drives at David, Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) walks by him and accidentally drops a shopping bag.
The two characters are then rushed to hospital, leaving David’s family worried he won’t survive, and a pregnant Daisy terrified the ordeal will see her lose her baby.
