French Open 2024: Here’s how to watch on TV, betting odds and more you should know
PARIS (AP) — Catch up on the French Open with a guide that tells you everything you need to know about what happened at the clay-court Grand Slam tennis tournament, how to watch it, what the betting odds are, what the schedule is and more:
Who is Playing on Tuesday?
A day after sitting in the stands at Court Philippe Chatrier to watch rival Rafael Nadal’s first-round exit, Novak Djokovic will get his French Open started. Djokovic is ranked No. 1 and the defending champion and trying to become the first player in tennis history to win a 25th Grand Slam singles title. His first opponent is Pierre-Hugues Herbert. He is a 33-year-old Frenchman who is ranked 142nd and has never made it past the third round at any major tournament. Their match is during the night session and scheduled to start at about 8:15 p.m. local time (1815 GMT, 2:15 p.m. EDT). The day’s first match at Chatrier is Australian Open runner-up Zheng Qinwen, the No. 7 seed, against French veteran Alizé Cornet at noon (1000 GMT; 6 a.m. EDT). That will be followed by matches involving Casper Ruud and Aryna Sabalenka. Others on the schedule on Day 3 include Elena Rybakina, Hulger Rune, Victoria Azarenka and Taylor Fritz.
What Happened on Monday?
Nadal, the 14-time champion in Paris, bowed out against No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev by a score of 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3. It is only Nadal’s fourth loss in 116 matches at the French Open. He said he is not sure whether he will return to play in the clay-court tournament again but he did say he wasn’t ready to announce his retirement. Monday’s winners included Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Marketa Vondrousova, Danielle Collins, Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Eighth-seeded Maria Sakkari, a semifinalist at Roland Garros in 2021, lost in the first round for the second year in a row, eliminated 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 by Varvara Gracheva.

Djokovic is a -10000 money-line favorite against Herbert, who is listed at +1350, according to BetMGM Sportsbook. Looking ahead to the second round, Swiatek is at -3000 to beat Naomi Osaka, who is listed at +1050. The payout if Swiatek wins the title moved from -155 to -175 after her first-round victory on Monday. Carlos Alcaraz remains the favorite for the men’s trophy at +225, followed by Djokovic at +350.
