‘Underpowered & lack of range,’ driver says of popular EV brands – but specific model is ‘far and away’ the best
AN X user took to the internet to explain why they could never own a certain EV – another user chimes in with why they’re worth it.
For a former skeptic of a specific company, the EV was worth the controversy.

Many Americans are still wary about replacing their gas-powered cars with EVs, citing a lack of range, charging speeds, and costs.
However, as infrastructure improves and more automakers are producing different types of EVs, people are slowly coming around.
Companies like Ford, Hyundai, and GM are working diligently to provide a variety of EVs to customers at a relatively low cost, which is gradually turning the tables.
There is one brand that pioneered the EV movement years before the government started cracking down on fossil fuels.
And thanks to its leader, there is now a stigma that comes with owning one.
Tesla, with Elon Musk at the helm, is one of the few EV makers with a divided following – people either love Tesla, or they hate it, due to Musk’s polarizing leadership strategies.
A study published in April found that to be true, with many drivers citing Musk as their sole reason for straying from a Tesla.
On X, a user (@colliderfrosty) posted their distaste for Musk and his products, saying he doesn’t know a single owner who hasn’t experienced issues with their EV.
Plus, with more options becoming available, buyers have more options.
“So many other companies are now making awesome EVs,” he wrote.
The post has 6,480 views, eight replies, and 44 likes, with many echoing their dislike for Musk being their main reason for not buying a Tesla.
However, there was one driver who bought one despite their grudge and was happy they did.
“Felt the same, but the Model Y is far and away the best EV for the value,” they wrote in response.
“Most of the other EVs in that class suck. They’re underpowered, lack of range, limited charging, and have crappy tech.”
Competitors to the Model Y
The site holds the Model Y at the top of the list for starter-friendly EV SUVs. However, there are a few Edmunds feel may keep Tesla on their toes as far as price, range, options, and charging capabilities.

Two months ago, drivers noticed the cost of the Model Y dropped by $2,000, having the base rear-wheel drive model dropping from $44,990 to $42,990.
The highest tier, the Performance trim, dropped to $51,490 from $53,490.
Edmunds ranked the Model Y an 8.1 out of 10, citing a smooth ride and a “better value” compared to other similar models at the same price point.
The range, acceleration, and vastness of the more reliable Supercharger network made it an easy EV to own, especially for those with children.
The site went on to say the Model Y is the “current benchmark” in its class, with many competitors using the car to base their vehicles on.
The only serious drawback reviewers at Edmunds had with the EV was a “lackluster interior” and a lack of smartphone integration modules.
