Train Fire Ignites Near Cabazon, Stalls Train Crossings Near Pass Area

CABAZON, CA —A nearly 2-mile train has halted in Cabazon after a train car fire ignited Tuesday morning, officials say.Just after 7 a.m., smoke rose from a Union Pacific train car Tuesday morning in the Cabazon area of Main Street and Railroad Avenue, Cal Fire spokesperson Karina Espinoza told Patch.Firefighters arrived at the 50500 block of Main Street to find the contents of a train car aflame."Firefighters managed to contain the blaze of the paper contents to the one train car," Espinoza said. Still, the massive train, totaling about 10,000 feet, was at a standstill on the tracks for several hours.Union Pacific Railroad spokesperson Robynn Tysver said, "the train did not block any crossings, but passing trains on the eastbound track were also stopped for about 1:45 minutes and may have been blocking crossings."The train has since moved on as of 12:15 p.m.Main and railroad Ave , railroad car on fire w/ cardboard inside .
