Huge 7.5-magnitude earthquake off coast of Argentina sparks tsunami alert

A huge 7.5 magnitude earthquake has struck the south coast of Argentina and Chile, prompting fears of a tsunami.
The entire southern coastal region of Chile is to be evacuated, with tsunami waves forecast to be as high as 3 metres in some areas.
The earthquake struck just before 10am local time (2pm in the UK) at a depth of 6 miles (10 km).
Its epicentre is located just 136miles (219km) south of the city of Ushuaia on the southern tip of Argentina, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The United States Geological Survey has also recorded further seismic activity in the region following the first quake, at 5.4 magnitudes and 5.7 magnitudes.

Further seismic activity took place after the initial 7.5 magnitude earthquake.
The Chilean National Disaster Prevention and Response Service has declared that the Magallanes Region will be immediately evacuated due to the threat of tsunamis.
Video shows tsunami warning sirens sounding in Chilean city port of Puerto Williams, which is 135 miles (218km) from the quake’s epicentre.
The US Tsunami Warning Service has said that tsunamis are forecast for some for coasts located within 186miles (300km) from the earthquake’s epicenter.
They predict tsunami waves will reach one to three metres above the tide wave along parts of Chile’s coast.
