Tennessee Launches "Every Child TN" Initiative to Strengthen Foster Care Support
In a significant move to support children and families involved in foster care, Tennessee recently celebrated the launch of the "Every Child TN" initiative at Belmont University's Fisher Center. This statewide effort emphasizes collaboration across various sectors to assist children and youth before, during, and after their time in foster care, as reported by the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.
The initiative, noted for building upon previous efforts by former Governor Bill Haslam’s Tennessee Fosters and Governor Bill Lee’s "Tennessee Fosters Hope," seeks to innovatively implement recruitment technology and provide new means for community and faith-based organizations to support foster care needs. The state has worked closely with numerous partners to ensure it does not fall short of the comprehensive care and assistance necessary for foster families.
According to the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, Every Child TN is the culmination of efforts by the DCS and the Governor’s Faith-Based and Community Initiative (GFBCI), with collaboration from 39 foster care provider partners, more than 300 community nonprofits and houses of worship. In March, the state registered over 2,300 individuals as "Every Child TN Champions" for foster care advocacy and volunteering.
The Every Child TN initiative has four priorities: preserving families and preventing the need for children to enter state care, recruiting a diverse pool of foster families to better meet children’s needs, retaining foster families for long-term stability, and supporting young adults transitioning out of foster care. The recent celebration honored various community members with Governor's Excellence Awards for their contributions, and looking ahead, Dollywood has even announced a complimentary visit for foster children in recognition of the initiative.
