New London Postal Carrier Delivered Mail While Intoxicated: Police

NEW LONDON, CT — A postal carrier is facing charges that he was delivering mail while under the influence, according to police.Police stopped a U.S. Postal Service van Jan. 2 at 3:45 p.m. in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Clover Court for a motor vehicle violation and reported reckless operation. Officers believed the driver, Christopher Clark, 39, of New London, was showing signs of being intoxicated. He was arrested and police said they found drugs and other illegal contraband on him. Clark was found with three crack pipes, cocaine, and brass knuckles, The Day of New London reported.He was charged with driving under the influence, possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a dangerous weapon, and failure to give proper signal. Clark had a warrant out for his arrest for failure to respond or plea that he was charged for as well. Police contacted a postal supervisor and made arrangements for the postal van and mail.
