Elite Starter Rules Out Potential Trade To Red Sox, Contenders

The Red Sox might be doing their homework on starting pitchers as the MLB trade deadline approaches, but Boston apparently shouldn’t waste its time looking into Max Scherzer.
Scherzer is no stranger to pre-deadline moves, as he was traded in late July twice dating back to 2021. And with the Rangers struggling — they sat at 45-50 entering Sunday — Texas theoretically could look to shop the three-time Cy Young Award winner and regain some assets it lost when it went all-in on a World Series pursuit.
But Scherzer leaving the reigning champions might not be likely. Appearing on “Foul Territory” last week, the 39-year-old was asked point-blank if he would waive his no-trade clause in the coming weeks.
“Yeah, I’m not going to do that,” Scherzer told host and former catcher A.J. Pierzynski. “I just don’t even think I have to think about that. I think we’re going to play better baseball and it’s going to be a moot point to even talk about. So, I think we’re gonna win here.”

The Red Sox and other clubs looking to improve their rotations probably would be better served speaking with teams that are totally irrelevant in the playoff conversation. Franchises like the Detroit Tigers (Jack Flaherty) and Chicago White Sox (Garrett Crochet) could be looking to accelerate their rebuilds through marquee trades.
The MLB trade deadline is July 30.
