A Michigan man got the surprise of a lifetime when he filed a claim for his lottery winnings.

Scott MacKenzie, of Cottrellville thought he may have won a measly $1,500 when he got a message to file a claim at the lottery office, but it turned out he actually won $200,000, ClickonDetroit.com reported. MacKenzie won the huge prize after he matched the four white balls and the Powerball, 04-24-29-39-63, PB: 25, in the Nov. 30 drawing.

He won a $50,000 prize, but due to the Power Play, it was multiplied to $200,000. “After the drawing, I took my ticket to a retailer to check it and thought maybe I’d won $1,500 or a smaller prize over $600 after getting a message to file a claim at the Lottery office,” MacKenzie said.

The lucky winner purchased his winning ticket at Buscemi’s at 54800 North Gratiot Avenue in Chesterfield. MacKenzie has simple plans with his winnings- he says wants to take a vacation, continue playing Powerball and then save the rest of his winnings.

Powerball plays can be purchased for $2 each. For $1 per play, a “Power Play” multiplies non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times to a maximum of $2 million.
