Country star Luke Bryan’s July 26 concert at the North Dakota State Fair took an unexpected turn when the country singer was struck in the face by a small ball thrown from the audience.
The incident occurred while Bryan was in the middle of singing his hit song “Country Girl.” In a fan-recorded video, he can be seen pointing to members of the crowd before the object makes contact with his face. Despite the sudden interruption, Bryan managed to complete the song. However, the concert ended there, as he left the stage immediately afterward.
The person responsible for throwing the object has not been identified. According to a representative from the Ward County Sheriff’s Office, no charges have been filed and no investigation is underway, as Bryan has not lodged a complaint. Still, footage of the moment quickly circulated on social media, drawing widespread backlash from fans and viewers.
This incident comes just as Bryan is easing back into touring after recovering from a recent illness. At a show in South Carolina the previous week, the singer revealed he had contracted COVID-19 three weeks earlier. He explained the illness had forced him to cancel several dates.
Despite being back on tour, Bryan admitted he’s still not fully recovered. He said, “I am not 100 percent because it’s still kicking my a**. When I can sing, I’m gonna sing. When I can’t, y’all are gonna sing, alright?”
Bryan’s tour will continue with performances scheduled in St. Louis, Missouri. It will be followed by Cincinnati and Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. The tour is expected to run through January.
