New auditorium unveiled at North Providence High School
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday morning to unveil the newly constructed auditorium at North Providence High School, following nearly a year of work.
The school now has a state-of-the-art auditorium with new seating, lighting, and other modern upgrades.
"We have this new, beautiful facility for our music performances, drama performances, and obviously for community use as well," North Providence Superintendent Joseph Goho told 12 News.
The auditorium isn’t the only improvement students will notice this year. Goho said the Library Media Center at the high school and the gymnasiums at Ricci and Birchwood middle schools have also been renovated.
"We're really pleased at the fact that our kids and teachers and staff are going to work into very positive, learning environments on the first day of school," Goho added.

As part of a five-year project, North Providence is also adding a new administration facility for the high school and two new buildings to replace Centerdale, Greystone, and Whelan elementary schools.
Officials expect the new administration building to open in October.
According to the North Providence School Projects website, once the new elementary schools are complete, Greystone and Whelan will be demolished. Centerdale Elementary is being considered for new purposes, such as a community center or recreational facility.
"Within the next two years of that construction being completed, every elementary school in North Providence will be totally brand new," Goho said.

The objectives of the District-Wide Construction Program include creating welcoming environments that reflect the town's character, reducing energy usage and costs, and providing dedicated support spaces for students and staff.
Goho noted the link between student achievement and the type of facilities in which they learn.
"We know that new modern learning facilities provide expanded learning opportunities and lead to increased student achievement. They just make it more, positive to come to school and to work every day, both for teachers and for students.," Goho explained.
All construction is slated for completion by December 2028.
