The 3-2-1: Trends in Florida Gators Recruiting

As of Tuesday, the Florida Gators’ 2025 class features 12 prospects and is ranked 30th with On3.
Six of those seniors are equipped with four stars, with wide receiver Vernell Brown III being the highest-ranked commit. We are still roughly five months away from the Early Signing Period though.
Below, Gators Online shares our three most-important targets for the Gators, two targets trending toward them, and one commit they might have to fend off additional schools for.
3 most-important targets
– 4-star CB Ben Hanks Jr., Miami Booker T. WashingtonNotes: Florida recently landed its first defensive back in 4-star safety Demetres Samuel. He is very talented but also reclassified from the 2026 class. As for Hanks, he has shutdown ability at cornerback and is a top-100 prospect overall. Florida is in need for a big fish at that position and the son of former Florida linebacker Ben Hanks is exactly that. He has that swagger and confidence you want in the secondary. The Gators are a finalist along with Louisville and Miami, as a commitment date is scheduled for this Friday.
– 4-star LB Ty Jackson, Loxahatchee (Fla.) Seminole RidgeNotes: Interest on Jackson’s side has been rising in recent weeks and On3 labels him the No. 1-ranked linebacker nationally. That alone paints the picture. The Gators have a strong core at linebacker with Grayson Howard, Shemar James, Aaron Chiles and Myles Graham, but Jackson is a big-time talent; in fact, he could be the highest-ranked defensive player left on UF’s board. Florida really wants him in the class. There is optimism in Gainesville after a pair of summer visits, while Georgia, Florida State, Penn State and Alabama are in the mix as well. A decision is not expected until later in the year.
– 4-star OT Tavaris Dice, Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes — AUBURN COMMITNotes: Florida offensive line recruiting has been a struggle during the 2025 cycle. The Gators are actively trying to flip several targets, with Dice being arguably the most-likely option. I’m not saying Florida is going to end up flipping him from Auburn, but it’s the only other school on his radar and that’s been the case for much of 2024. There is plenty of familiarity after a handful of trips to Gainesville. Considering that, Dice’s status as a national recruit and Florida’s need at the position, it wasn’t difficult including him. Changing his mind is going to be difficult though.
2 targets trending toward the Gators
– 4-star CB Ben Hanks Jr., Miami Booker T. WashingtonNotes: As we reported on Monday, we are hearing Florida and Louisville are in the best shape for Hanks. Miami is a finalist too, but recent communication with the Gators and Cardinals has been much stronger. Hanks had multiple strong experiences with the Gators earlier this summer, especially for his official visit. That provided some nostalgia for the entire family. The x-factor, however, is Hanks’ sister and them two attending the same school. She is expected to play volleyball at whichever schools Hanks attends. As of Tuesday, it’s looking like Florida could very well be that school.
– 4-star WR Naeshaun Montgomery, Miami CentralNotes: For much of 2024, Florida has been viewed as the school to beat for Montgomery. With a decision scheduled for Aug. 25, I’m not expecting that to change. LSU is the other top contender. Multiple Florida coaches are doing a good job of making Montgomery feel wanted, while current commits are actively recruiting him too. Then you have the DJ Lagway effect, as Montgomery sees big opportunities with the former 5-star prospect being on the roster. All signs are pointing to the Florida Gators winning out later this month.
1 commit Florida needs to hold onto
– 4-star WR Joshua Moore, Pembroke Pines (Fla.) West BrowardNotes: When Moore committed earlier this summer, I don’t believe many thought other schools would stop recruiting him. That’s certainly been the case with Miami. The 6-foot-4 pass catcher has not shown any signs of wavering on his pledge but did mention a few situations that could result in him looking elsewhere. One of those would be if the Florida Gators won around two games or “completely fumbled the bag.” I see Florida winning more games than that, but other programs are in Moore’s ear and visits could take place. The Hurricanes are the program we will be monitoring for that, but for now though, Moore is a strong commit for the Gators.
Stay tuned to Gators Online.
