Taste Of Joliet Shatters 3-Day Crowd Record 'Without A Doubt': D'Arcy
JOLIET — Sunday's annual Hispanic Music Lineup for Taste of Joliet obliterated last year's highly successful event that drew a record 10,000 people. Joliet Mayor Terry D'Arcy estimated that approximately 18,000 people were on hand for Sunday evening's 6:45 p.m. concert to close out the 19th annual Taste of Joliet event organized by the Joliet Park District. The wildly popular Hispanic band, Los Huracanes Del Norte, with nearly 4 million Facebook followers, packed the house inside Joliet's Memorial Stadium. Mayor D'Arcy, along with City Councilman Cesar Cardenas and Brad Staab of the Joliet Park District, were thrilled beyond belief with Sunday evening's enormous crowd size. They had high expectations, but even they were stunned by Sunday's turnout. Los Huracanes del Norte have been nominated for 3 Grammys, produced 68 albums and were just awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The rest of Sunday’s lineup included: RVL es Rival, Alianza del Monte and Mariachi De Joliet.Mayor D'Arcy said that the three-day combined attendance for Taste of Joliet easily topped 60,000 people, which would break last year's record-setting crowd of 55,000 people. Last year's lineup was headlined by Train, Tyler Hubbard of Florida-Georgia Line and one of Mexico's hottest bands, Latin Grammy winners Banda Los Sebastianes.Friday night's show featuring the Goo Goo Dolls drew an estimated 25,000 fans, and D'Arcy figured that was about the same size crowd for Saturday's Country Music Night, headlined by the wildly popular Lady A.Back-to-back years of record attendance for Taste of Joliet will absolutely have major entertainers in the music industry along with influential concert promoters talking up Joliet in a tremendous way, D'Arcy assured Joliet Patch.According to the Joliet Park District's ticket sales, Taste of Joliet drew people from seven different states, D'Arcy noted. Taste of Joliet is now on the map as one of the premiere outdoor summer festivals in the entire Midwest, bringing more positive recognition for Joliet, D'Arcy pointed out.Hometown pride is growing in Joliet, and this weekend's turnout at Taste of Joliet proves that things are in the right direction.Joliet Patch was on hand for Sunday's Hispanic Music Lineup to capture several more Facebook Live videos to close out Taste of Joliet. Here's a photo gallery from Sunday's amazing turnout:Joliet City Councilman Cesar Cardenas, Joliet City Manager Beth Beatty and Mayor Terry D'Arcy were thrilled beyond belief with Sunday's crowd, estimated by D'Arcy to be around 18,000 for the Hispanic Music Lineup to close out the 19th annual Taste of Joliet.
