The Crown Star Meg Bellamy Shared The Vile Things Trolls Said About Her Playing Kate Middleton
During the last season of The Crown, they finally shined a light on the love story between Catherine, Princess of Wales, better known as Kate Middleton and Prince William. To play Kate, they hired newcomer Meg Bellamy, who many say was perfect for the role of the future Queen. However, when you jump into a huge role like that, there are bound to be trolls. And these vile trolls decided to call her “too fat” to play Kate. What?!
While speaking with You for DailyMail, Bellamy talked about how, during press for the upcoming season, she was hit with so many rude comments about her weight. “I’d had this long day of press, it had gone well, then I went on my phone, and there was all this negative stuff about my body online,” referring to the main comments claiming, “You’re too fat to play Kate.”
“That was a glimpse into being a woman in this industry. I thought, ‘OK, that’s a sign to distance yourself, because it doesn’t mean anything,” she said, saying how she doesn’t read comments anymore. “You can’t listen to that sort of stuff,” she said, referring to trolls as “men called Gary who are holding a fish in their profile picture.”

However, even with all the Garys in the world, Bellamy isn’t letting it bring her down. “I’ve had so many amazing things happen to me,” she said. “They’re the losers for saying that. I’m living my best life over here!”
In fact, after The Crown, Bellamy made her stage debut as Jean Purdy in A Child of Science in 2024, and we’re sure she’ll have even more under her belt soon.
