X-Men MCU Movie Will Be ‘Recognizably Different’ Than Other Entries

Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier is beginning to open up about his MCU X-Men movie.
Following Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, Schreier was said to be in the running to direct a brand-new X-Men movie. Kevin Feige then confirmed earlier this month that Schreier was indeed working on the project, which isn’t expected to arrive until after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
What did Jake Schreier say about the MCU X-Men movie?
Speaking with The Playlist, Schreier was asked if the new X-Men flick will be “recognizably different” than the previous movies.
“Yeah, I think that’s fair to say,” he answered. “There’s that red sniper dot out there somewhere, you know…But to be able to explore all of the ideas that are inherent to that rich source material, but also at the scale inherent to the source material, that’s like a very rare and fortunate opportunity. That’s very exciting.”
He also said, “Without going into too much— really almost any detail, what I can say is, it’s just inherently interesting and complex material…The core idea of what X-Men is involves complexity. It’s an incredible opportunity with super interesting characters and [much] internal conflict. These characters are wrestling with their identity and place in the world—that’s inherently interesting and complex material.”
Feige previously said, via Variety, that Schreier was going to make a “youth-focused reboot.” He continued, “That may be reflected in mutant castings, and it’ll definitely be felt in the tone and perspective of the film.”
No plot details for the X-Men movie are available at this time. It’s also unclear which mutant characters will be featured in the film, as there has been no casting information made publicly available.
X-Men does not yet have a release date from Marvel. Thunderbolts*, meanwhile, is now available to rent or own on digital streaming platforms.
