4-star S Eric Winters to decide between Auburn, Miami, and Georgia after official visits
AUBURN – Eric Winters, a priority 4-star safety target, was back at Auburn with his team to compete in 7-on-7 o n Thursday. Winters is closing in on a decision and has three schools in the running. So far he has visited Miami. He has two more visits set up.
“I got Georgia this weekend then Auburn next weekend,” he said. “I’ll talk with my parents and then go from there.”
Winters is ready to make a decision, and while he will probably miss the recruiting experience, wants to help build a class around him where he chooses.
“People say they won’t miss it, but everybody is going to miss it when it’s all said and done,” Winters said. “But, I am ready to get it over with so I can help recruit a class and build something special wherever I go.”
Winters is the No. 65 overall player in the class of 2025, the No. 8 safety, and the No. 5 player in the state of Alabama according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
Spent more time with Auburn coaches
Winters was happy with his team’s improvement at the camp.
“I mean really just getting better as a team and learning about each other, just building that chemistry to hopefully go win it all during the season,” Winters said.
He was happy to have Auburn coaches watch him live in action.
“Yeah, them seeing me play, seeing me play live, that is special to me,” Winters said.
What stands out about Auburn the most at this point?
“I mean really just the fit, I mean talking to Coach Kelly, he’s coached people who look like me and has put people in the league that look like me and things like that.”
“It’s really all a blessing to have someone who knows what to do and has had people like me. Guys like Derwin James. Then Coach Durkin has coached guys like Jabrill Peppers who are so multiple and versatile.”
Georgia and Miami
When it comes to Georgia, what stands out the most?
“Georgia, Georgia recruits itself,” Winters said. “I mean you can’t say much other than Georgia has put so many defensive guys in the league. They put you in the right spots each and every day. They put you in positions to be successful.”
When it comes to Miami, what stands out the most?
“Miami, that’s probably the most genuine relationship I’ve got in this process,” Winters said. “They’re the first people that really have gotten my mom out of her shell. Family is a big thing to me, too. They’re building a great program down there.”
What is the most important thing in his future choice?
“Really just that family feeling and really where I can go and trust the coaching staff to make me a better man, better person, better athlete in all aspects of life,” Winters said. “Somewhere I can be–you know I can take care of my family, too.”
“Also, playing for a coach who knows what to do with me. Like I said with Coach Kelly, he has coached people who look like me.”
Thursday was another step with Auburn ahead of his decision which will take place after his official visit to Auburn.
“Just keep building the relationships and hopefully be able to trust these guys for the next four years of my life,” Winters said.
