Knicks vs. Pacers Game 2 live updates: New York getting its spark back

By Ryan Dunleavy

Up Next - Inside look at Knicks-Pacers' intense Eastern Conference final history

Forget it and move on.

That’s what the Knicks have the opportunity to do Friday after a disastrous Game 1 loss.

There are no words to describe Indiana’s improbable comeback but there were a few bright spots for New York in the 138-135 overtime loss that included a deja vu-inducing collapse. Karl-Anthony Towns had 35 points and Jalen Brunson dropped 43.

Will the duo be able to lift the Knicks to a Game 2 bounc-eback win? Or will Indiana clamp down with a 2-0 series lead before heading home?

Follow the Post’s live updates from the 2025 NBA playoffs for the latest scores, news and highlights.

Mitchell Robinson is dominating this game
By Ryan Dunleavy
Since coming off the bench with the Knicks down by 10, Mitchell Robinson's effect on the game is real.

He has three rebounds, including two on the offensive glass (someone might want to do a stat check there because it feels like more).

He also just forced a turnover by Bennedict Matthurin by using his insanely long wingspan to guard on the perimeter.

Knicks take the lead in style
By Ryan Dunleavy
An alley-oop from Jalen Brunson to OG Anunoby gives the Knicks a 24-22 lead.

Their 10-point deficit is officially erased.

Anunoby finished the first quarter with nine points, which is a good omen. The Knicks are 6-0 in the playoffs when Anunoby reaches 20 points and 2-5 when he does not.

Brian Daboll, Russell Wilson and early celebrity watch
By Ryan Dunleavy
The Knicks must be saving their Timothee Chalamet and Ben Stiller cameos for later.

The first four celebrities shown on the scoreboard were Michael J. Fox, Busta Rhymes and Knicks legends Willis Reed and Clyde Frazier.

And The Post caught Giants coach Brian Daboll and QB Russell Wilson walking out to the floor, though it doesn't appear they are here together.

5-0 run with bench
By Ryan Dunleavy
The Knicks were down 19-9 when Tom Thibodeau made his first substitution.

Mitchell Robinson was followed off the bench by Miles McBride.

In the next 81 seconds, the Knicks went on a quick 5-0 run, including a 3 by McBride that forced a timeout from the Pacers.

Pacers jump out to big lead
By Ryan Dunleavy
Well, this script feels familiar.

The Pacers aren't shooting the lights out quite like they did to start Game 1, but they still have jumped out to a big first-quarter lead.

It wouldn't be the Knicks otherwise, right?

The Pacers lead 16-9 with six minutes to go, courtesy of 58.3 percent shooting from the floor.

OG Anunoby (five) and Jalen Brunson (four) have combined for all the Knicks' points.

But the start hasn't done anything to ease the bad taste from Game 1's ending.

Layup-line reactions
By Ryan Dunleavy
The Pacers ran onto the court when the lights were out at Madison Square Garden for some pump-up-the-crowd moment.

The undistracted fans still noticed the hated Pacers and booed.

A few minutes later, the Knicks took the court to cheers.

Shaq: Knicks must have 'killer' mindset
By Ryan Dunleavy
Shaquille O'Neal never faced the 1990s Knicks in the playoffs.

But the NBA on TNT analyst started rattling off names of the tough guys of that era when asked by The Post's Steve Serby what the Knicks' mindset must be in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.

Charles Oakley. Anthony Mason. John Starks. Patrick Ewing.

"Killer," O'Neal said.

He also added that the Knicks fan has reason to worry.

Mental state of the Knicks
By Ryan Dunleavy
The biggest question entering Game 2 against the Pacers is how the Knicks will respond to a gut-wrenching defeat.

Becoming the first team in NBA playoff history to blow a 14-point lead in the final 2:30 of Game 1 is one thing.

But if the Knicks let it affect the start of Game 2, that collapse could be worth two games.

Here's what coach Tom Thibodeau said about responding to adversity

Shots falling
By Ryan Dunleavy
Jalen Brunson (15-of-25) and Mikail Bridges (8-of-16) both shot over 50 percent from the field in Game 1.

A deeper dive, however, shows that the duo combined to go 1-for-7 from behind the arc.

Not good enough.

Both Brunson and Bridges were out shooting around 90 minutes before tipoff.

Bridges mostly stayed behind the 3-point line, while Brunson posted up his father (assistant coach Rick Brunson) before sliding over to the free-throw line.

Worrying Knicks signs aren’t limited to NYC streets
By Stefan Bondy
Just a couple of blocks from the Ritz Carlton where the Pacers were dissecting film of Game 1’s epic Knicks choke job, Karl-Anthony Towns Square, aka 32nd St., was wide open.

No traffic. No congestion. Few pedestrians. No reason to stop my car from breezing through.

I didn’t drive a few blocks in the other direction toward Mikal Bridges Block on 25th St., but I’m envisioning it also being appropriately empty.

Easy commute through these Knicks streets after Game 1. No defense.

There’s a famous saying that certainly applies to sports: “Act like you’ve been here before.” The city’s gesture of handing out street names to every Knick because they won two playoff rounds — just two, mind you — screams instead, “I’ve never been here before and I don’t belong.”

I get that Mayor Adams is grasping at straws with an election upcoming, but let’s be real — it’s downright silly. There must be people right now on 6th Ave. & West 4th St. asking themselves, “Who the heck is Pacome Dadiet and why is his name on my corner?”

Knicks can turn around Pacers series — and spark that thrill in New York again
By Howie Kussoy
This is love.

This is what you signed up for as a kid who thought athletes were superheroes, why you continue to invest so many hours and so many years of your finite existence watching millionaires play a game.

The Knicks’ most thrilling postseason run since 1999 has made those who loathe crowded subway cars seek out mosh pits on Seventh Avenue. The Knicks have united the city in a way that no other team or entity — nothing short of tragedy — is capable of, with players’ names on street signs and Madison Square Garden truly feeling like the Mecca.

Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton (0) shoots a 2-point shot against New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson (23) to tie the score at the end of regulation in Game 1 of the NBA basketball Eastern Conference final, Wednesday, May 21, 2025, in New York.

This is also the risk you accept for caring, for believing, for dreaming.

You can forever pocket improbable back-to-back comebacks and an all-time upset against the defending champion Celtics, then never shed the shock of the Knicks’ Game 1 collapse against the Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals.

PGA Tour’s John Pak credits Knicks’ Game 1 meltdown for strong start at Charles Schwab Challenge
By Jaclyn Hendricks
The Knicks’ epic collapse to the Pacers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals inspired at least one professional athlete to see his job all the way through.

PGA Tour pro John Pak credited his fiery start Thursday at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth to the pitfalls of his beloved Knicks, explaining how their fourth-quarter meltdown and eventual 138-135 overtime loss to Indiana fueled his play at Colonial.

“I’m a die-hard Knicks fan, and that historically was one of the worst losses I’ve ever seen in my life, and there was a fire lit under me this morning. I was a little pissed off about that,” said Pak, who hails from Scotch Plains, N.J.

Pak shot a career-low round of 7-under 63 to put him atop the leader board Thursday despite a lackluster slumber.
