Sean Creech Motorsport to skip Indy as Willsey steps away

Sean Creech Motorsport driver Lance Willsey has decided to step away from racing, leading to the team’s decision to forgo the penultimate round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, the TireRack.com Battle on the Bricks at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Willsey, who earns his living as a doctor, has been with the team since 2019, starting in IMSA Prototype Challenge. Following his decision, the team will regroup and seek options for other drivers to step into the No. 33 Ligier JS P217 LMP2 machine for Petit Le Mans in October.
Team principal Sean Creech says he remains committed to SCM and its team members.
“First and foremost, we wish Lance the best,” said Creech. “Going forward, I am absolutely committed to keeping this team going, preferably in the LMP2 category. We’re in discussions with several drivers and sponsors and are open to additional options.”

The team has proven itself in numerous sports car series, having won two Ferrari Challenge championships (2015 and ’16) and the 2018 IMSA Prototype Challenge (now the VP Racing SportsCar Challenge) before moving to the LMP3 category, where it scored a Sebring victory and podium finishes at Daytona, Petit Le Mans and Road America. SCM moved up to LMP2 this season where, in a sea of ORECA 07s, its Ligier has been a solitary standout. However, the plucky effort has yet to reach the podium, scoring a best finish of fourth at Sebring.
