CVS shoppers left ‘shaking their heads’ with no baskets available thanks to problem store can’t fix
CVS shoppers slammed the retailer for not providing customers with baskets, however, the stores says it’s a problem that can’t be fixed.
Theft has run rampant in stores across the US with major retailers expecting $132 billion in combined losses for 2024 alone, according to research by Capital One.

Shoppers have also felt the effects of high theft as many stores are understaffed or have anti-theft measures that ruin the experience.
One person shared an experience at CVS that shocked them as they exited the store.
“At CVS I picked up the only hand basket I could find,” wrote John P. Hiner on Facebook.
While checking out, he asked the cashier if he should put the basket near the door where he found it.
“He said, ‘Don’t matter, it’s our last one.’ What? I said … what happened to your baskets?” Hiner asked.
The cashier explained that people come into the store, fill up the baskets, and walk out.
“He said [it] nonchalantly like ‘Duh, obviously because it’s America,'” wrote Hiner.
“I put the soon-to-be-extinct basket back where I found it and walked out, shaking my head.”
The post received several comments from fellow shoppers – some were surprised while others weren’t.
“How am I supposed to shop?” read one angry comment. “Ridiculously selfish by others. Good on you, John.”
“That is so terrible,” wrote another person.
THE STING
A new anti-theft campaign was launched in San Francisco, California, where many retailers, including CVS, have been victims of excessive crime.
Groups of masked thieves have been seen rushing into a store and grabbing whatever they can carry to resell it illegally on the streets.
San Francisco Police has implemented “blitz operations” to crack down on crime.
Officers set up stings or enlist undercover cops to hide at a business.
The measure was introduced in the fall of 2023 and has led to 200 arrests by the end of the year.

San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott said they had arrested “well over 400 people this year alone.”
“The retail theft grant that the city received last year is being put to good use, and a lot of those blitz operations are funded by that grant,” he added.
However, some small businesses have said they felt overlooked by the new measure.
“We have probably experienced the same issues as other business neighborhoods,” said Carole Yenne, head of the Noe Valley Merchants and Professionals Association.
“The police are called and sometimes they make it in three minutes, sometimes they take much longer, hours, even overnight.”
The U.S. Sun has reached out to CVS for comment.
