Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn has finally broken his silence about their breakup in a new interview.
The actor, 33, has famously never uttered a word about his A-list ex but has finally spoken about his romance with the superstar after they parted ways last year following a six-and-a-half-year relationship.
In a new interview, the actor who’s set to star with Emma Stone in a new film told The Sunday Times Style Magazine his past relationship with the Cruel Summer singer was ‘long, loving, and fully committed’.
‘I would hope that anyone and everyone can empathise and understand the difficulties that come with the end of a long, loving, fully committed relationship of over six and a half years.
‘That is a hard thing to navigate. What is unusual and abnormal in this situation is that, one week later, it’s suddenly in the public domain and the outside world is able to weigh in,’ he said reflecting on the public scrutiny over the end of their relationship.
‘So you have something very real suddenly thrown into a very unreal space: tabloids, social media, press, where it is then dissected, speculated on, pulled out of shape beyond recognition.
‘And the truth is, to that last point, there is always going to be a gap between what is known and what is said. I have made my peace with that.’
These comments come as Taylor continues the UK leg of her sellout Eras Tour, which has been met with global success.

Joe and Taylor began dating in October 2016 when she was 28 and he was 26.
The pair apparently met at the Met Gala, just a few months after the Lover singer dated Tom Hiddleston.
Engagement rumours followed the pair for years with the actor once telling the Wall Street Journal: ‘If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins.’
After their breakup, the singer released a new album, The Tortured Poets Department. Many believed this album to be inspired by the singer’s breakups with Joe and the 1975’s Matty Healy.
The singer has been in a relationship with American footballer Travis Kelce since the end of last year.

In the new interview, the actor emphasised that it was a ‘mutual’ decision between himself and his ex to keep their relationship private.
‘As everyone knows, we together – both of us, mutually – decided to keep the more private details of our relationship private. It was never something to commodify and I see no reason to change that now.
‘And, look, this is also a little over a year ago now and I feel fortunate to be in a really great place in my life, professionally and personally. I feel really good.’
When asked if he was in a relationship now or if he was still in contact with his ex, Joe shut the question down.
‘I’m sure you can appreciate, given the level of noise and scrutiny about my past relationship, why I wouldn’t want to just open the door to things like that right now,’ he said.

The actor is set to star in Kinds of Kindness, a new film set to be released later this month.
The film has been described as ‘depraved’ and follows three major storylines. The plot revolves around a man attempting to take back control of his life, a policeman who thinks his wife has changed, and a woman searching for someone who has a special ability.
The movie comes from director Yorgos Lanthimos, who was praised recently for his film Poor Things, which also starred Emma Stone. Joe previously worked with the director on his 2018 film The Favourite, another major Oscar winner.
‘I’m not sure I have a fully articulated answer as to what it’s all about,’ Joe told The Times. ‘That’s one of the reasons I love his [the director’s] films – there’s so much ambiguity and they’re so wildly singular.’
Kinds of Kindness is set to be released on June 28.
