New Jersey United AC Secures First Win in Club History

New Jersey United celebrated its first-ever victory in front of their home crowd as Kingston Stockade FC were left to rue their missed chances. St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen, New Jersey, served as the host of the contest, which ended in a 1-0 New Jersey United win. The home side set the tone early as Diego Navas found the back of the net in the 13th minute, becoming the first-ever goal scorer in United’s history. New Jersey capitalized on a Kingston Stockade mistake to set the tone for the rest of the game.
While Navas’ early goal gave the hosts the lead, it was New Jersey United’s defensive resilience that helped them secure the three points, capped off by the sensational performance of goalkeeper Max Pfaffman. The Brooklyn native was a standout in his debut, making numerous crucial saves throughout the match to not only maintain a clean sheet but help his side earn the hard-earned victory.
The match was also notable for its physicality with six yellow cards being shown throughout the game. Both teams engaged in hard tackles and defensive plays that kept the referee on his toes.
As for Kingston Stockade, they dominated possession for significant portions of the game and created several scoring chances but were unable to convert any of them. Pfaffman’s heroics, combined with United’s stubborn defense, saw the visitors finish the game scoreless.
This victory was particularly sweet for New Jersey United not only because it was the first win in club history but also as a bounce-back game after a disappointing 3-0 loss to Hartford City FC last time out. In that game, they conceded early in the 12th minute, in a match that took them a while to settle in to. United clearly learned from their first game, and Head Coach Fernando Barboto made the adjustments needed to avoid a similar performance.
With their first three points under their belt, New Jersey United will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to travel north to take on Syracuse FC. Confidence will be high as they seek to continue putting the league on notice in their first-ever season. Kingston Stockade, on the other hand, are left without a victory after two matches played and need to regroup quickly as they travel to Connecticut to face the same side United lost to in their first game, Hartford City FC.
New Jersey United’s first win is a significant milestone in the club’s history and will forever be remembered in the history books. As the team celebrated the win, the victory not only marked a great start to a still very young season but also set the tone for the games and season to come.
